Ruth I.Starsja
1931-2012
Lanesboro, Mass., USA - Ruth Isabelle Starsja, widow of the late Roger Starsja, passed away at her residence, in Lanesboro, Mass., USA, on Saturday, August 4, 2012, at the age of 81.
Born in Center Napan, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Jennie (Bessie MacInnis) Gilliss. She was a homemaker and a dental hygienist by profession. She moved to the Boston area as a teenager and subsequently graduated from Forsythe School of Dental Hygene. Most of her working career was with Dr. Arthur Pederson. She was a member of the Berkshire County as well as the Naples, Florida Embroiders Guilds, in both her home town of Lanesboro as well as in her Florida home, where she spent her winters. She was an expert with a needle and the family will cherish her beautiful embroidery and quilts.
She is survived by three daughters, Laura Naughton (Tim), Leslie Heisler (Jess) and Patricia Hayes (John); one son, John Starsja (Donna); ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren; four sisters, Velna Mills (Lloyd), Helen MacDermaid (John), Beatrice Leslie, Diana Tucker; two brothers, Roy Gilliss (Anita) and Archie Gilliss (Elwanda); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of forty-nine years, Roger, in 2004; one sister, Laura Watling; one infant brother, Bryden; three brothers in law, David Leslie, Walter Watling and Ellery Tucker.
Ruth was a smart, talented, stubborn and above all, a loving and lovely woman.
At her request, there will be no visiting or funeral service at this time. A memorial service may be held at a later date in Miramichi, New Brunswick and will be announced. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Lanesboro can be made to HospiceCare c/o Dery Funeral Home, Berkshire, or in New Brunswick, donations to any charity of the donors’ choice, would be appreciated by the family.
