Walter Archibald Williston, husband of Anna G. Williston, of Route 117, Bay du Vin, passed away suddenly at his residence, on Friday, July 9, 2010, at the age of 86.

Born in Bay du Vin, on March 16, 1924, he was the son of the late George W. R. and Mary A. (Pleadwell) Williston.  He was a fisherman and farmer by occupation and a survivor of the Escuminac Fishing Disaster.  He attended St. Michaels By The Sea Roman Catholic Church, Miramichi Bay.

He is survived by his wife, the former Anna G. Hallihan; four daughters, Glenna Barry, of Truro, N.S., Geneva Graham (Dave), of Kingston, Ont., Irene Wilson (Jim), of Saint John, Bernita Williston, of Palm Springs, California; one son, Kenneth Williston (Lynn), of Bay du Vin; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by one infant son, Shawn Walter Williston; one son in law, Carl Barry; three sisters, Helen McLeod, Georgina Cortes, Katherine Gahan; three brothers, Everett, Andrew and Charles Williston.

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., on Sunday evening, from 7-9 pm and Monday, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from St. Michaels By The Sea Roman Catholic Church, Miramichi Bay, on Tuesday, at 2 pm, conducted by Father Claude Daigle and Father Leon Creamer. Music for the Mass was provided by the church choir.  The scriptures were read by Geraldine Guimond and Darlene Irvine and the Prayers of Intercession were led by Frances Reid.  A special poem, "Ode to the Fisherman", was offored by grand daughter, Megan Roach.

The honorary pallbearers were Andy MacLeod, Douglas Williston, Raymond Burrell, Lyman Cortes, Ian Williston, Theodore Williston, Archie Poirier, Jerry Hallihan, Lawrence Bransfield, Ron Reid, Ronnie Hallihan.  The active pallbearers were Shawn Barry, Scott Barry, David Graham, Ricky Dutcher, Bernard Williston, John Dutcher.  Interment was be in the church cemetery.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone 773-3492, or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca

Anna, Please know that you and the family are in my thoughts. Uncle Walter was a wonderful person and I have many fond memories of you both. Mum loved her summers there as a young girl and shared many stories of the fun she and Marg had and that Uncle Walter was usually victim or instigator and never far from the fun. Love, Anna Lee

To Anna, and all the Williston family, I offer my deepest condolences. Walter was always such a friendly happy, loving man, and such a big part of Bay Du Vin. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Everyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing the man, and being on the receiving end of his big smile and huge heart will miss him sorely. Bay Du Vin has lost another pillar of the community!
