Ian P. Williston

1930 – 2018

Ian Phineas Williston of Bay du Vin passed away on Friday morning March 23, 2018 at the age of 88 surrounded by family.

Born in Boston, Mass., on March 15, 1930, he was the son of the late Phineas and Gertrude (Carroll) Williston.  He was a fisherman all his life and a member of St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church.  Ian was a passionate life-long member of the PC party.  He devoted himself to his community, politics, and most importantly his family.

He is survived by one sister Phyllis Carroll (Robert) of Bathurst; two brothers Harry Williston (Velma) and David Williston (Catherine) all of Bay du Vin; one sister in-law Rhona Williston of Bay du Vin, and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, one sister Margaret Kingston, five brothers Haley, Eric, John, Paul and Herbie Williston, and special niece Gail Kingston.

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St. Miramichi, visitation was on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.  Funeral service was held at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Bay du Vin on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 2 pm with Rev. Thomas W.L. Nisbett officiating, assisted by Rev. Deacon Rose Steeves and Rev. Canon Richard McConnell.  The organist for the service was Dawn Bell and the hymns were “Jesus Saviour Pilot Me”, “Blest Be the Tie that Binds”, “O God, Our Help in Ages Past”. The recessional hymn was “Abide With Me”.  The scriptures were read by Hannah Williston and Libby Kingston.

Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Donahue, Edward Hitchman, Owen Kingston, Bill McIntyre, Ken Sweezey, Doug Williston, Theodore Williston and Tom Williston.  Active pallbearers were Allen Aubie, Claude Chapman, Alan Kingston, Grant Williston, Harold Williston and Kenny Williston.   Interment will be in church cemetery later in the spring.

On the campaign trail, so many years ago, I always enjoyed meeting this Bay Du Vin gentleman. Advice he would offer came straight from the heart; his words soft spoken and kind. Never a quid pro quo with Ian - his conversations were about his community - the country - the Party.
You never forget good folk like that.
