In Loving Memory of Marilyn J. Hanna

1939 – 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Marilyn Joy Hanna, wife of Thomas Hanna of Napan, New Brunswick, who passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on March 18, 2024, at the age of 85.

Born in Minto, New Brunswick, on January 5, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William and Marion (Estey) Johnston of Princess St. Ext.  Marilyn was a School Teacher for 35 years and she happily retired in 1997.  She taught in Saint John, Scotland, Quebec and Miramichi.  After retirement, her and Tom travelled the world and loved every second of it.  When they weren’t traveling, she loved to spend time at the cottage with family and friends.  Her husband, her children and grandchildren were her whole world.  They were her everything.

The family would like to thank the staff at Losier Hall and Miramichi Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their kind and compassionate care they gave to Marilyn.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Tom; one daughter, Lisa Knowles (Mike) of Antigonish, NS; one son, Matthew Hanna (Julie) of Napan; three grandchildren: Justin of Halifax, NS, Chris of Toronto, ON, and Aleesha Marilyn of Napan; as well as one sister, Sharon Fraser (Dan O’Connor) of Halifax, NS; and many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents; and one daughter, Lori Hanna in 2011.

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Friday, March 22, 2024, from 6-9 PM.  Funeral service was held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at 11 AM with The Reverend Keith Carter officiating.  the music for the service was recorded music and the hymns were "In The Garden", "Precious Memories" and the recessional hymn was "How Great Thou Art" all sung by Alan Jackson.  The family eulogy was read by The Reverend Keith Carter and sister, Sharon Fraser presented a tribute to Marilyn.

Pallbearers were Michael Knowles, Bruce Hanna, George Loveridge, Jerry Carroll, Kevin McLean and Paul McLean.  Interment will be in the Riverside Cemetery later in the spring.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi SPCA or Miramichi Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit would be appreciated by the family.
