Barbara Joyce Morrison

January 6, 1948 – September 19, 2019

Barbara Joyce Morrison passed away peacefully from the complications of terminal cancer in the presence of family and friends at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on September 19th, 2019 at the age of 71. 

Born on January 6, 1948, at the Miramichi Hospital in Newcastle, Barbara is the daughter of the late Duncan and Margaret (Goodfellow) Morrison.  She is survived by her brothers: James (Linda), Ajax, ON, and David (Barbara), Fredericton, NB, nephew, Jon, Fredericton, niece, Sara (Martin), Edmonton, AB, and canine partner, Nikki.  Also, she is survived by a number of cousins and special friends, Pauline Taylor, and Luc Dubé, both of the Miramichi.

Barbara received her elementary education at the Ferry Road Elementary School before high school graduation from Harkins Academy in Newcastle.  She earned a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education Degrees from Saint Thomas University in Fredericton, NB, before a teaching career at the elementary level at several Miramichi schools for 25 years.

An avid reader, Barbara enjoyed informal debates and rants on politics and current affairs.  She also enjoyed recreational skating, cross-country skiing, curling and golf.  Barbara was a member of Bethel United Church & its UCW at Millbank; MARTA; the Eastern Star; and Laubach Literacy.

In her journey to death and eternal life, Barbara wishes to acknowledge the kindness and professionalism of the Doctors, nurses, and medical support teams of the Dr. Georges Dumont Hospital, Moncton and the Miramichi Regional Hospital as well as the people of the Miramichi Extended Extra-Mural Program.  Words cannot adequately express how much their care and service meant to her in her time of need.  Also, thank you to the close friends and Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight, who were there for her at this time.

It was Barbara’s personal wish that there be no visitation or memorial service, but a private graveside committal service by Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight was held at the Moorefield Cemetery on Saturday, September 28, 2019.
