Col. William H. Smith
1919 – 2019
Retired Col. William H. Smith, husband of the late Shirley E. (Portt) Smith of Campbellton and formerly of Miramichi passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on May 23, 2019 at the age of 99.
Born in Durham, England, on June 19, 1919, he was the son of the late William H. and Sara L. (Lang) Smith. He retired as a Lieutenant Col. in the Canadian Air Force. He was previous Base Commander of C.F.B. Chatham.
He is survived by his two sons: William A. Smith (Wilhelmina) of Campbellton and Brian C. Smith (Barbara) of Ottawa, ON; three grandchildren: Chris, Colin and Melissa; five great grandchildren: Stephen, Laurie, Julia, Ryder and Lyra. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, Shirley E. (Portt) Smith, sister, Betty Waterfield and brother, Edward Smith.
At Col. William H. Smith’s request there will be no visitation held at the funeral home. A grave side service will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery on Saturday June 22, 2019 at 1 pm with Rev. Deacon Ted Quann officiating.
