Joseph W. Lanteigne

      1946 – 2019

Joseph William Lanteigne, husband of Irene (Dutcher) Lanteigne of Miramichi passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Monday, May 20, 2019 at the age of 72.

Born in Chatham, on December 24, 1946, he was the son of the late Percy and Eleanor (Redmond) Lanteigne.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Irene Lanteigne; daughter, Dawn Donovan of Miramichi; son, Jody Lanteigne (Stephanie) of Dieppe; five grandchildren: Makayla, Cayden, Brooklynn, Brianna and Kaytee; one sister, Theresa Richards of London, ON; three brothers: Bobby Lanteigne (Marg) of London, ON, John Lanteigne of Toronto, ON and Gerald Lanteigne (Fran) of St. Paul, NB; numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Tommy and sister, Margie.

Joe was a gifted softball player with Loggieville teams of the 60's and 70's playing on 6 Provincial and 5 Maritime Championship Teams. Joe was inducted into the Miramichi Sports Wall of Fame and Softball New Brunswick Hall of Fame. After his playing career he gave back to the game he loved in a coaching capacity at both the Senior and Minor levels.

Joe had a long career in the forestry and pulp & paper industry, retiring as supervisor at UPM in 2004. After retirement he enjoyed fishing, golf, playing crib, and spending time with his precious grandchildren.

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Loggieville on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11 am with Father John Fraser as Celebrant. Music for the service was by Norma A. Sugden and St. Andrew’s Parish Choir.  The hymns that was sung was “Be Not Afraid”, “The Lord is my Sheperd”, “Do Not Let Your Hearts Be Troubled”, “I, The Lord”, “Song of the Angels” and the recessional hymn was “Go Now In Peace”  The scripture readings was read by Marcy Carscadden and Stephanie Atkinson.  The Prayers of the Faithful was by Wendy Kennedy and the eulogy was presented by Bobby Lanteigne.

Honorary pallbearers were Flavian Daigle, Pete MacLean, Don Ross, Stan Hennigar, Gerald Dutcher, Abby Traer, Keith Trevors, Gerald Donaher and Paul Doucette.  Pallbearers were Blake Whitney, Hillaire Daigle, Blair LeBreton, Errol Kennedy, Chris Richards and Kenny Blacquier.  Interment will be held at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Cemetery later in the spring.
