Velna D. Mills

1932 – 2018

Velna Druscilla Mills, wife of Lloyd Mills of Miramichi passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at the age of 86.

Born in Napan on September 4, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Archie and Jennie Elizabeth “Bessie” (MacInnis) Gilliss.  She worked at the Morada Motel for many years in housekeeping.  She was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church.

She is survived by her husband Lloyd Mills; son-in-law, Ludger Cormier of Miramichi; three grandchildren: Christine Adams (Cory) of Quispamsis, Nancy Buggie (Justin) of Amherst, NS and Greg Corcoran (Alex) of Miramichi; seven great grandchildren; three sisters: Helen MacDiarmid of Napan, Beatrice Leslie of Miramichi and Diane Tucker of Fredericton; two brothers: Roy Gilliss (Anita) of Napan and Archie Gilliss Jr. (Elwanda) of Fredericton; many nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her parents; daughter, Heather Cormier; son, Garth Mills; two sisters: Ruth and Laura and infant brother.

Visitation was held from Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm.  Funeral service was held from St. Stephen’s United Church, Black River Bridge on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 2 pm with Rev. David Allan officiating.  Music for the service was provided by David Mann and the Loggieville-Black River Pastoral Charge Choir.  The hymns were “Psalms 23”, “Just As I Am”, “Amazing Grace” and the recessional hymn was “We Shall Go Out With Hope of Resurrection”.  The lighting of the Christ Candle was done by Neil Watling, and Memorial Candles were lit by Greg Corcoran and Ludger Cormier.  The scripture reader was Agnes McLenaghan.

Honorary pallbearers were:  Blanche McDougall, Jasper Mills, Kayla Trevors, Anna Watling and Robert MacDiarmid.  Pallbearers were:  Cory Adams, Justin Buggie, John Gilliss, Cory Guimond, Brian McDougall and Wade McLenaghan.  Interment was in the Black River Community Cemetery.
