Lloyd E. Cameron

Lloyd Edward Cameron, husband of the late Diane Cameron, of Howard St., Miramichi, passed away in Miramichi on Wednesday, October 5, 2017, at the age of 67.

Born in Chatham, on August 2, 1950, he was the son of the late Frank F. and Vera (Gilliss) Cameron.  Lloyd, a former teacher, was a life-long resident of Miramichi. He grew up on a small farm in Loggieville with his 3 brothers and 5 sisters. He began his teaching career in Alberta, but quickly returned home to teach at the first opportunity. After 33 years he retired from James M Hill High School. He was keenly interested in drama and travel and developed a love for these in many of his students as well as adults.

Lloyd was well-known, loved and respected in the community for his active participation in many organizations such as St. Andrews United Church, Miramichi Highland Society, M.A.R.T.A., the Liberal Party, the W.S. Loggie Cultural Centre, Big Brothers and Sisters, and the Tall Ships Committee. His love for drama prompted him to create Double L Productions after he retired.

He is survived by four sisters, Ethel Lockerbie (John), of Miramichi, Edie Gammon (Peter), of Bathurst, Lois Keoughan, of Bathurst, Jean Clements, of Windsor, N.S.; two brothers, Archie Cameron, of LeMoyne, Que and Brian Cameron (Anne), of Kentville, N.S.; one sister in law, Lynne Cameron, of Truro, N.S. ; one brother in law, Bill Walls Sr., of Miramichi; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, the former Diane Johnston; one sister, Agnes Walls; one brother, James Cameron; two brothers in law, Jim Keoughan and Ray Clements; one nephew, Glenn Gammon; one niece Toby Keoughan-Alexander; one great niece, Jennifer Gignac.

Visiting was at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Monday.  Funeral service was held from St. Andrews United Church on Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight.  Music for the service was provided by Mr. William Sweezey and Sheila Cameron.  The hymns were “Jesus You Have Come to the Lakeshore” and “Make Me A channel of Your Peace”.  A special musical selection, “Wind Beneath My Wings”, was presented by Sheila Cameron and “Beautiful City”, by Joey Dignam & Candice Curtis.   The recessional hymn was “Go Now in Peace”.  The scriptures were read by Nancy Lockerbie and Kelly (Brown) Murray and the eulogy was offered by Andrew Clark.

A large group of Retired Teachers sat as a body for the service and formed a guard of honor following the service.  Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Miramichi.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to any charity of the donors’ choice would be appreciated by the family.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone 773-3492 or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca

I am incredibly saddened to hear about Lloyd's sudden passing. Lloyd was an exceptionally kind hearted and very giving man that touched the lives of so many of who had the privilege of knowing him. His countless and generous hours teaching us at James M. Hill was so very much appreciated.

Outside of the classroom he was also an exceptional person to be around and was involved in so many extracurricular activities that he took great pride in. I feel very fortunate to have had the privilege of having Lloyd as a teacher in the late 80's along with an extraordinary and memory filled trip to Europe with Lloyd along with our French Immersion class in the summer of 1987 that Lloyd worked tirelessly to organize and fund-raise for.

Lloyd worked so very hard to do so much for so many of us and I am very grateful that he left such a positive influence on my life. Lloyd was a very classy and tremendous teacher, friend and incredible member of the Miramichi, he was respected and admired by all and deservedly so.

May God Bless Lloyd and his entire family during this very difficult time.

Dear Cameron Family, From the first day I met Lloyd in Chatham I knew I had a real friend in a town I was unfamiliar to. Lloyd was strong àt upholding his values and he carried strength for those around him. He cared for so many people! He had insight, integrity, compassion, energy and a passion for learning and sharing. As I sit here in Belfast today I am fortunate that Dianne Henderson is on our Heritage trip with me because together we understand each other's thoughts. How sad we all are at your loss, our loss and the loss to humankind. How fortunate I was to have had Lloyd in my life! I always knew that my interests were supported by him and with our common 4-H background we had rural roots and interests to share. May God bless you all to get through this day and month. Love, Mary Anne
