Morrison, Ron Merle
Amidst the sadness and broken hearts, the wonderful man which we were privileged and fortunate to call RON has left his earthly home to journey to his heavenly home on Wednesday, Oct 11th in the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 76. Ron was born on June 7, 1941, son of the late Merle and Lillian (Taylor) Morrison.
Left with treasured memories his loved and devoted wife of 54 years Shirley (Fowlie) Morrison, his two sons Kevin (Gill) of Moncton and David of Sussex, four precious granddaughters Nicole, Abbie, Taylor, and Kelsey. Much loved and respected brother to Dennis (Judy), Brent, Debbie and sister in-law Doris Tozer. Uncle to two nieces, Amy (Tim) and Sandra (Nelson) and two nephews Mark and Edward (Franceline) and great uncle to Brandon , Tye, Karlea, Lydia, Jody, and Bradley. Gone to join his family members, son Brian (1996), Father Merle (2002), Mother Lillian (2017), infant brother Dale (1948), brothers in-laws Jack Tozer (2015) and John Moir (2017). We can only hope that with Ron’s passing comes a spiritual reunion with his son Brian who sadly preceded him, resulting in a pain that resided in Ron’s heart throughout his remaining life. May they both rest in peace together.
Ron a humble man and true gentleman, always smiled and put others before himself. His priorities were family, work and the great Miramichi community. Owner of Tozer Insurance, a business he was so proud of and enjoyed for 51 years on Water St., Chatham. He truly valued his clients , his numerous coffee group friends, Wednesday Golf Day with the guys and simply bringing a smile and fun to everyone’s day.
Throughout his life, Ron actively volunteered his time serving and working with so many organizations for the betterment of the community. An active member of St. Andrew’s United Church he served as an elder, steward, and trustee. Charter member and past president of the Chatham Rotary Club, and Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, former councillor in the town of Chatham, served on the board of Protestant Orphanage Home, also served on Miramichi Airport Commission, Past President of Miramichi Retirement Inc.( serving on the board for twenty years), President of Chatham Seniors and Handicapped Inc.(10 King St.), also Past President of the local New Brunswick Housing Board, as well as Past President of New Brunswick Insurance Brokers Association, Director of Atlantic Insurance Brokers Association, and Director of the Canadian Federation of Independent Brokers, Director of New Brunswick Development Corp, Secretary of the former Chatham Lions Club, Past Chairman of Chatham Downtown Business Association, Vice-Chair of Community Business Development Corp, Director of Enterprise Miramichi, Life time member of the Conservative Party, Life time member of the Highland Society of Miramichi, and a member of the Miramichi Golf Club and former St Margarets Club. To Shirley and family my deepest sympathy to all of you. Ron was a great individual who I have known for years, Always smiling and kind to everyone and had allot of friends in the Insurance Industry. Had lunch with him back in April or May and even then when he spoke of his health concerns he still was thinking and talking about his family. We will all miss him and his smile. I've been in the Insurance Industry for some 27+ yrs.. I originally started working for Hatfield Leech & Assoc. in Woodstock where I stayed for some 11 yrs.. I had 2 great employers, Harold Hatfield and George Leech. Harold taught me the business portion of the industry and George the customer, company, and fellow broker relations. It was on one of our many trips that George and I went on that I met Ron. He and George were good friends and both enjoyed each others company, as well as those of anyone who would sit down with them, have a drink, and tell stories, and there were many they could tell. Ron was a great ambassador for the Insurance Industry, truly loving what the industry represented, and the customers it served. It was my pleasure to get to know Ron over the years and he will be truly missed.

From reading his Obituary I can tell that he also shared his passion to help others in many other ways. This exemplifies what a truly wonderful man he was.

I was not aware of the previous passing of one of his sons. I can see Ron and him now laughing, and enjoying their times from here on.

My deepest sympathies to his entire family!

God bless you all!

Dear Shirley & Family ... We met Ron back in 1976 when I was a fieldman for the Commercial Union group. From there it was all friendship and business mixed with some great stories. We had lots of chats at the conventions and golf tournaments. We are extremely saddened by his passing and it leaves a void in our hearts. Now you will have to keep him in your hearts and reflect on all of the good memories. He was one of my best friends in the industry . May the good Lord watch over you all. God Bless. K & C

My condolences to your family on Ron's passing. He was a regular patient in the MRI dept. and was generous with a pen or two on each visit. We would call him the "pen man", but we knew there was more to him than that. It was sad to see him decline, as I'm certain it was for all who knew this kind man.

Shirley and Family So Sorry to hear of Ron's death. We were not aware of any health problems so this was a complete shock. How many times have we talked about getting together for dinner or just to chat. Sometimes we wait too long. We would like to go up on Fri. or Sat. but I am sure you and your family will be swamped with local greetings and visits, so I think we will wait a couple of weeks. We are planning to go visit my sister - in a nursing home in Miramichi. We will call previous to our trip up and arrange to visit with you for an hour or so. Again ,our sincere condolences. You and your family are in our prayers. Love and hugs, Richard and Shirley

So so sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. Everything he did - business - Rotary - on the golf course - in his wide range of interests and activities, he did with a certain bonhomie and smile.

There will be a void, an absence felt for a time in Chatham/ Miramichi as the healing begins.

Our condolences to you Shirley and the extended family.

Upon this day sadness in our hearts...

In the silence, no voice do we hear,
No sounds of laughter, emptiness' feared,
No smile is found, no song in our hearts,
A loss in the family, one has embarked,
A journey for soul's one special man,
He gave to others, a helping hand,
A gentle man, whose hearts desired,
Ron reached new heights, in others he inspired,
We all knew it, we know he cared,
The love in his heart is something he shared.
Those who marvelled, life that he earned,
What time he shared, lessons we learned
A father and uncle, brother and friend,
Inquisitive and spiritual, to the very end,
With prayer comes victory, strength comes will,
Patience's comes virtue, in time comes skill,
Though cold and snow wind and rain,
The rite of passage he never complained,
Memories and faces old places he'd been,
Photographs now cherished something to be seen,
For family and friends, all who gathered near,
Remember his spirit it still lingers here.

Very sorry to learn of Ron's passing. I first met him more than 30 years ago in his capacity as Chair of the Chatham Downtown Business Association when members of the community put plans in place to revitalize Chatham's core area. His leadership of this initiative elicited broad-based support for these plans and led to an implementation program which breathed new life into downtown Chatham that continues to carry on.

Although I hadn't seen Ron for a couple of decades, on a visit to Chatham last year I happened to run into him in Ben's... the site of many of our conversations years earlier. Although our discussion was brief, it was like deja vu all over again... reminiscing about the past with lots of laughs in between!

Please be consoled knowing that Ron was a visionary and leader whose priorities were always about his family and his community. I will miss his friendship, wisdom, and advice, but will take comfort knowing that his achievements have left us all in a better place... just as he is now. RIP

I have only today been told of the passing of Ron and I was so sorry to hear that. I only got to meet him at insurance functions and an occasional visit to Miramichi but I know that Tony valued his friendship and the part he played in the insurance industry. He has left us too soon, at the same age that Tony achieved. I was very grateful to you both for attending Tony's memorial service as it is a long drive.
