Robert A. Russell

The death of Robert (Bob) Allen Russell, husband of the late Pauline (Hill) Russell, of Point Aux Carr occurred at Miramichi Regional Hospital on January 10, 2018 at the age of 84.

Born in Point Aux Carr on October 15, 1933, Bob was the son of the late Earl and Aletha (Taylor) Russell.

Bob is survived by children Daniel (Gail) Russell of Fredericton, Valerie (Brent) Sherrard of Miramichi and Andrew (Ruth-Ann Wright) Russell of Elmira, ON, grandchildren Anthony, Pamela, Bryce and Drew, great grandchildren Emilee, Ericka, Veronicka, Matthew and Andrew, and sister Shirley Dutcher.

Besides his parents and wife, Bob was predeceased by granddaughter Rebecca and brothers Blair, Vernon and Cecil.

Bob put his faith in the Word of God, trusting in his Saviour the Lord Jesus Christ. He served his country as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force for 25 years and visited many parts of the world on peace-keeping duties. Bob had a wide circle of friends who valued his sense of humour, wit and intelligence. He was always ready to lend a hand and, in spite of personal frugality, was often generous in helping others. He was a model of hard work and integrity and was widely respected.

In his declining years, Bob was fortunate to be part of a community where folks look out for each other. The family is grateful for the many kindnesses that were extended to him, particularly during his time as a widower.

For this reason, we ask that, in lieu of flowers or charitable donations, those who wish to honour Bob’s memory would perform an act of kindness for an elderly person. A meal, a chore, a visit – anything that reminds that person they are not forgotten and that someone cares.

Visitation was at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Friday, from 1-4 pm.  Music for the service was provided by Sherry Waye, and the hymns were "My Jesus I Love Thee", "Precious Lord Take My Hand" and "My Faith Looks Up To Thee".  Special words from the family were shared by Brent Sherrard.

The honorary pallbearers were Vernon Goodfellow, Keith Glendenning, Warren MacDonald, David MacDiarmid, Grant Dutcher, John Sayers, Eddie MacDonald, John McKnight, Wavel McCormack, Blake Taylor, Ricky Russell, Fred LeBelle.  Active pallbearers were Donald Bullock, Al Fraser, Albert MacDonald, Dale MacDonald, Luke MacMillan, Alan Russell.

The funeral service was held from Adams Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 13 with Pastor Chad Rozelle officiating. Interment will occur at Pine Grove Cemetery, Miramichi, later in the spring.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone 773-3492 or messages of condolence may be sent online to

Dearest Andrew & Family. I am so very saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. He has always been one of my favorite people. I am so happy that my husband and children got to know your Dad. We have had some very nice visits over the years (such a great story teller). As well as a few muddy adventures. He was a kind and gentle man. He will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. Living away from home has its ups and downs, but it is heart warming to know that our parents live in a great place with lots of love around them. Sending love from our family to yours. Kim, Tony, Riley, Taylor & Maddie

I'm very saddened to read of Bob's passing. He was a fine gentleman, and I am sure he will be missed by his family. I had not seen Bob in almost 25 years, but remember him well from meetings we attended together.

We first met Bob and Pauline while living on Schwarzwald Strasse in Lahr, Germany in the 60's and have been friends ever since. Bob was technically and morally strong and a real gentleman, he could be trusted in any situation. His bear stories were wonderful to hear, if you can make friends with, and gain the trust of, bears you obviously have the right stuff. Rest in Peace Bob, we will miss you. Our condolences to all of the family, Bob went the way that he would have wanted, not too much messing around. God Bless you all. John and Ivy in Ottawa.

Although I wasn’t fortunate to have known your loved one. He has served both his country and his community and lent a hand to others. I am so impressed by the familys wishes, to ask others, in his memory to “perform and act of kindness”. A wonderful expression of his spirit and the definition of “paying in forward”. A wonderful tribute to him, his family and friends
