Born in Loggieville, on August 25, 1941, he was the only son of the late Godfrey and Wilma (Patterson) Burke.  Family, trucks and motor cycles were his passion.  He and Dorothy covered many miles each summer on his Harley.  John was a transport driver for many years before being the founder of Burke’s Towing.

Besides his wife Dorothy of 27 years; he is survived by daughters: Sherry Murdock (Paul), Karen Burke (Terry Gilliss) and Neva Burke (Jerry Martin); son: Cody and step-son: Todd; 8 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; two sisters: Hattie MacDonald (late Jim) and Peggy LeBreton (Blair) all of Miramichi; several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, daughter Bonnie Burke, father and mother-in-law Blair and Meda Carter.

As per John’s request there was no visitation held at the funeral home.  A celebration of John’s life was held at Knox United Church, Loggieville on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 2 pm Rev. David Allan, Rev. Gerald Blaquiere and Father John Fraser officiating.  Music for the service was provided by David Mann and the Loggieville – Black River Pastoral Charge Choir and the hymns were “I, the Lord of Sea and Sky”, “The Old Rugged Cross”, “Amazing Grace” and the recessional hymn was “I Feel the Winds of God Today”.  The lighting of the Christ Candle was done by Bradley Lynch.

Honorary pallbearers were Blair Carter, Terry Carter, Arnold Flynn, Billy Hay, Tom Hedquist, Bobby Hitchman, Edward Hitchman, Bradley Lynch, Kevin Morrissy, Sandy Nolan, Laurie Patterson, Rick Patterson, Tommy Patterson, Mike Phee and Roy Walsh.  Interment will be held in the Miramichi Cemetery later in the spring.
