Alberta L. (Bertie) Fowlie
1930 – 2021
Bertie Leah Fowlie, wife of the late Theodore (Ted) Fowlie of the Little Branch Road, Black River Bridge, passed away at her residence on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at the age of 90.
Born in Escuminac, NB, on December 3, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Hazel (Williston) Lewis.
In her younger years she was a School Teacher and taught in Napan, and also lived and worked as a Store Clerk in New York for a period of time. She was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church, and United Church Women and Women’s Institute. She was a Sunday School Teacher, and was best remembered for her smiling face behind the take-out counter at the annual Harvest Home. She loved being a part of the School Board, Farm Women’s Association, and took care of her home and daily Book Keeping of the Fowlie Farm “Theodore Fowlie and Sons Ltd.”
Bertie is survived by her seven daughters: Carolyn Jenkins (Michael), of Saint John, Sharon Adams (Rick), of Miramichi Bay, Margaret Holland, of Okotoks, AB, Lynda Adams (Garth), of Airdrie, AB, Patti Fowlie, of Riverview, Debby Manuel (Jean-Rene), of Black River Bridge, and Trudy Fowlie, of Riverview; three sons: David of Calgary, AB, Ralph (Marjeanne), of Black River Bridge, and Kevin (Jolaine), of Black River Bridge; 23 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Kierstead (Ron) of Miramichi. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Theodore (Ted) Fowlie; son, Gary; brothers: Kenneth and John; and sister, Eva.
A special thank you to Debbie MacDonald for her devoted and loving care. She was thought of by Bertie as a daughter. To the Extra Mural team and Dr. Gerard Losier, our deepest gratitude for their professional and compassionate care. All enabled Bertie to remain in her home that she loved.
A PUBLIC visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home 140 King St., Miramichi on Wednesday from 2-4 PM, and 7-9 PM. A PUBLIC funeral service was held at St. Stephen’s United Church on Thursday, July 22, 2021, at 2 PM, with Rev. David Allan officiating. Music for the service was provided by Cory Fowlie and Barbara Somers. The hymns were: "In The Garden", " Here I Am, Lord", "Dancing in the Sky", and the recessional hymn was "He Leadeth Me". The lighting of the candle was by Leah Chiasson. The scripture readings and a poem was read by Carmel MacDonald, Angie Lamkey, and Brittany McIntyre. The eulogy was presented by Megan Manuel.
The honorary pallbearers were: John Depew, Reg Fowlie, Tom Groundwater, Michael Jenkins, Ron Kierstead, Elmer MacDonald, Jean-Rene Manuel and Neil Watling. The active pallbearers were: Ashlin Adams, Brandon Fowlie, Bryce Fowlie, Kurt Fowlie, Kyle Fowlie, Garnett Jenkins, Ben Lefurgey, and Max Manuel. Interment was held in the Black River Community Cemetery.
