Ann Louise Hodgins of Napan, NB, passed away at Percy’s Place on August 13, 2024, at the age of 94.
Born in Chatham, NB, on April 15, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Bertha (Murdoch) Harrigan. Ann lived most of her early life in Lower Napan, NB, moving to Edmundston, NB, in grade 7, then returning to Napan in 1957. She worked for Sears Canada for nearly 25 years as Assistant Manager/Manager. For most of her life, she regularly attended St. Andrew’s Catholic Church (Loggieville). Ann was an avid reader, woodcarver, and animal lover, especially horses and dogs, and she thoroughly enjoyed a good laugh.
Ann is survived by her daughter, Brenda Matthews (Bradley) of Fredericton; son, Tim Hodgins of Napan; granddaughter, Taylor Matthews; sister-in-law, Erma Hodgins of Ottawa, ON; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ernest Hodgins; sister, Doris; and brothers, Al and Fred “Ted”.
Special thanks to Ann’s longtime physician, Dr. Gerard Losier, and the exceptional staff and volunteers at Percy’s Place who provided so much care and compassion to Ann and her family. Thanks also to KRT and Ann’s many dedicated caregivers, the nurses and paramedics of the New Brunswick Extra-Mural Program, and the caring staff of 3 East and 1 East at the Miramichi Regional Hospital.
Visitation was private family only. A public Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 12 St. Patrick’s Dr., Miramichi, on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 11 AM, with The Reverend Father Anthony Papau and The Reverend Father Dan Bastarache as Celebrants. Music for the service was provided by Jackie Allain and the hymns were: "Salve Regina", "Eye Has Not Seen", "Psalm 27, The Lord Is My Light And My Salvation", "And You, O Saint Ann", "The Bread Of Life", "Ave Maria", "Songs Of The Angels", and the recessional hymn was "Blest Are They". The Scripture Readings were read by Shirley and Harry Gallant. The Eulogy was presented by Tim Hodgins, and the Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Shirley Gallant.
The honorary pallbearers were: Harry and Shirley Gallant, Wayne and Joyce Thompson, John and Mona Murdock, and Lillian MacLean. The active pallbearers were: Kevin Gardiner, Randy Murdock, Paul Murdock, Kyle Murdock, Chris MacLean, and Herbie Jenkins. Interment was in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery, Miramichi, NB.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Percy’s Place, NB Alzheimer’s Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
