Anne Catharine Kane (nee Whitty) passed away peacefully at Percy’s Place Hospice, Miramichi, New Brunswick, on January 17, 2025, at the age of 83.
Anne was born on 28 November 1941, in Chatham, New Brunswick, and attended St. Michael’s Academy in Chatham, graduating in 1959, before going to Hotel Dieu School of Nursing to earn her diploma in Nursing and becoming a Registered Nurse. She spent the majority of her nursing career at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Chatham, where she rose to become a Nursing Supervisor before taking over as the Policy & Procedure Coordinator for Miramichi Regional Hospital.
While raising a family, she had a second career in real estate. Anne was active in the community both at St. Michael’s Basilica in Chatham, as well as at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, and was an active member for many years of the Retired Senior Nurse’s Association on the Miramichi.
Anne is survived by her sons, Trent (Sandra), Danny (Sarah), and Darrell; as well as her siblings, Jean Long, brother, Lyle Whitty; and three grandchildren, Megan, Dakota, and Nicholas. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Herbert (Bert) Kane, parents, Nicholas Whitty and Edna Whitty (nee Foley), her father-in-law, John Kane, mother-in-law, Irene Kane (nee Donaher), and her siblings, Marlene (Beattie) and Billy.
At the request of the family, there was no visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at 11 AM, with The Reverend Father John Beaumaster as Celebrant. Music for the service was provided by Mr. David Bonnell, and the hymns were "Come to Me", "Rest In God Alone", "Gentle Woman", and "Songs of the Angels". "You Raise Me Up" was sung by Gerry Roberts, and The Lords Prayer was sung by Jean Long. Tthe recessional hymn was "The Fields Of Athenyre". The scripture readings were read by Barb McLaughlin, and Carol Campbell, and the Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Barb McLaughlin. A reception followed the service in St. Michael's Church Hall. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery later in the spring.
