Audrey Louise Savoy Obituary
In Loving Memory of Audrey Louise Savoy
1942-2024
It is with broken hearts that the family of Audrey Louise Savoy (nee O'Donnell) announce her peaceful passing at the age of 82, on August 16, 2024, at Pine Grove Nursing Home in Fredericton, NB.
Born July 1, 1942, to the late George and Annie (Gillis) O'Donnell she was the fourth child in her family of six siblings - Margaret, Leonard, Lorraine, Frank, and Linda. They shared many moments together in their family home on Lobban Avenue in the former town of Chatham, New Brunswick.
Audrey began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse before marrying the love of her life, John Orson Savoy on May 25, 1963. They began their married life as a military family moving to Fredericton in 1963, where Audrey worked at the Victoria General, and where their cherished daughter, Sherri was born in 1964.
Military life took Audrey and her family many places. To Germany in 1966, Ottawa, Ontario, in 1969 and Greenwood, Nova Scotia, in 1974. During those years, Audrey devoted herself to caring for her daughter and husband before refreshing her love for nursing and restarting her career in Middleton, Nova Scotia, before the family returned to the former town of Chatham, New Brunswick, in 1979. She worked at the Miramichi Senior Citizens home for 26 years until she retired in 2005. She had many stories to share from her vast experiences in life, travels and nursing. She loved to share her few German words and funny tales about the antics of raising a spirited daughter.
She took on her most important role in life in 1982 when her granddaughter, Cindy was born and again in 1986 with the birth of her grandson, Corey. Audrey was a devoted grandmother and loved nothing more than to love on her grandchildren and make them feel like they were the most important people in her world. She was gifted that joy again when she became a great-grandmother in 2005 to Cole and again in 2007 to Madison (aka Blondie). To her, the sun rose and set on her great-grandchildren and she was so very proud of absolutely everything they did.
Audrey loved the outdoors, a good book, camping and spending time with her family. She and John rarely missed an episode of General Hospital and she loved to see pictures of her beloved great-grandchildren once she mastered the art of Facebook.
She is survived and deeply missed by her daughter, Sherri Rowe (Marty); granddaughter, Cindy McDonnell (Jeff); grandson, Corey Cormier; great-grandson, Cole McDonnell; great-granddaughter, Madison McDonnell; sisters: Linda Vautour (Gary), Lorraine Laing (Carl), Margaret Abbott Brown (John); and brother, Leonard O'Donnell (Rose); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by husband, John Savoy; brother, Frank O'Donnell; and devoted companion, her Shih Tzu, Shelby.
The family wish to extend their heartfelt and deepest appreciation for the kindness, love and care provided to Audrey in the last years of her life by the staff at Pine Grove Nursing Home. Your ability to make her laugh to the point of tears, bring out her silly sass with jokes and Nerf gun battles, every hug, every smile, every chat...it meant so much to her and to us.
At Audrey's request, there were no services. Interment was held at St Michael's Cemetery, Miramichi, NB.
As expressions of sympathy, donations made in memory of Audrey Savoy to the SPCA, Red Cross, or Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, NB; telephone (506) 773-3492. Additionally, messages of condolence may be shared online at www.adamsfh.ca
