In Loving Memory of Bert Matchett
1951 – 2026
Bert Joseph Matchett of Miramichi, New Brunswick, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on June 29, 2026, at the age of 74.
Born in Chatham, New Brunswick on December 7, 1951, before moving to Toronto, Ontario, he was the son of the late Howard and Mary Clara (Daigle) Matchett. Bert was employed with Birsay Mesh for many years before retiring and moving back to Saint John, New Brunswick, where he worked for Fundy Linen. He was also self employed as an appliance repair expert in his own company, Top Notch Repairs. He finally retired from both of these jobs.
He moved back home to Miramichi (Chatham), only to pick up the reins of the Local Mat Bus Transit as a driver for several years. He battled and beat cancer and was in remission for several years.
To anyone who got to know Bert, they found not only a friend, but a smart outgoing man who would go out of his way to help someone in need. There are many accounts of this. He was a husband, father, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, and above all, a friend to many. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Fare thee well Bert! Bless You! Till will meet again!
Bert is survived by his wife, Doreen (Barrieau) Matchett; two daughters, Brenda LeBlanc (Sheldon) of Saint John, New Brunswick, and Tabatha Walker of Roanoke, Virginia; one son, Burt Matchett of Miramichi; four sisters: Joan LeBlanc (Blair) of Saint John, New Brunswick, Joanne Bechard (Raymond), Terry Arsenault (Joe), and Maryann Matchett (Jeanne), all of Miramichi; two brothers, Herbie Matchett (Sheila) of Ontario, and Alton Matchett (Diane) of Miramichi; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters: Florence, Marie, and Delima, and brothers: Arnold, Howard, John, and Ernie.
As per Bert’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to IWK Foundation, NB Heart & Stroke Foundation, or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
