Betty Joy Hoban
1946 – 2022
Betty Joy (Wiseman) Hoban, wife of Thomas (Tim) L. Hoban of the Rennie Rd., Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at the age of 76.
Born in Deer Lake, NL on February 7, 1946, she was the daughter of the late William and Dorothy Wiseman. On July 21, 1964, Betty married the love of her life, Tim Hoban and they had three children: Thomas (Tim) of Edmonton, AB, William (Bill) and his wife Victoria of Miramichi, and John (predeceased); and grandson, William of Miramichi. Betty came from a large family: Maxwell (deceased) (Lydia) of Stephenville, NL, Winston (Julia), John (Lorraine), Audrey (Ray), Haggart, Edith (Gerald), Tony (Marie), William (Betty), and Linda, all of Deer Lake, NL.
Betty passed away after a lengthy battle with an incurable liver disease which started in the early 70’s. She will be missed by her many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and especially her aunt, Phyllis Griffin.
Betty was employed in her younger years as a salesperson/cashier with Goodyear & Humber Store in Deer Lake, NL. She worked for Sears Catalogue Office in Labrador City, NL. She graduated from NBCC Miramichi as a Human Service Councillor, and worked for 18 years with Miramichi Volunteer Services, helping troubled youth and families in the Miramichi and surrounding areas.
Betty was a devoted mother and wife of Tim for 59 years. She dearly loved her family and took pride in caring for her home and family. She was a member of the Miramichi Melodies, loved to sing like her father. She worked with the women’s centres in Port Aux Basques, NL and in the Miramichi. She was also a member of the North & South Esk Lions Club. Betty was recognized by the RCMP as a “Second Man”, supporting her husband through voluntary services who was stationed at smaller detachments.
A public funeral was held at Adams Funeral Home Chapel, 140 King St., Miramichi on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 2 pm with Reverend Deacon Ted Quann officiating. Music for the service was provided by Mr. David Bunnell and Mrs. Susan Butler and the hymns were "Ave Maria", "Do Not Be Afraid", "Hear Us, Lord" and "Going Home". The scripture reader was Mike Johnson and the eulogy was presented by Tim Hoban Jr.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Liver Foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
