Brent Sheldon Dickson Taylor
December 4, 1959 – May 21, 2026
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Brent Taylor. Brent, who was surrounded by family at the time and passed away on May 21, 2026, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital after a brief illness. He was 66.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Janice Taylor; his cherished only son, Neil Taylor (Kyla Côté); brother, Byron Taylor (sister-in-law Gail Taylor); brother-in-law, Eric White (sister-in-law Gayle White); sister-in-law, Sally Price (brother-in-law Terry Price); as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Brent was born in Lachine, Quebec, to Helen and Eldon Taylor, as their first son. Growing up as a boy, Brent’s hobbies included reading, listening to music, radio, and hockey. He grew up a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan and continued to cheer for them religiously throughout his entire life.
Brent quickly matured, and his hobbies and career started to explode. He branched out into many different industries and areas. His first career started as a radio host and DJ at CFAN (Newcastle, NB) and CFNB (Fredericton, NB). After that, from 1984 to 1990, he worked at the family business Stedman’s store in Doaktown. From there he moved on to pursue his political dream and became an elected MLA for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1991-1995. From 1995-1998 he worked as a Computer Repair & Configuration Technician. At the same, he also worked along side his brother Byron at Hewtech Industries, a flail chip harvesting contractor. In 1998 he began his career with Atlantic Business College as a System Administrator, Instructor and Network Administrator and remained there until 2007. It was at this point Brent joined Veterans Affairs Canada as a member of the Veterans Review & Appeal board until 2017. He remained with Veterans Affairs Canada as a Team Leader up until his passing.
Brent was also deeply involved in other professional endeavours throughout his life. He was a volunteer firefighter, ambulance attendant and first aid instructor, Radio operator (PMCC Government of NB), political panelist (Rogers Television), district communications officer (EMO, Miramichi), Columnist (Cadogan Publishing, Brunswick News, Miramichi), commentator (CBC radio, Fredericton) and Commissioner and member of the Legislative Democracy of the Government of New Brunswick.
There was no shortage of hobbies and passions for Brent. He was a licensed private pilot, licensed amateur HAM radio operator and Vice-President of Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC), pilot licensing ground school instructor, amateur meteorologist, and author. He also enjoyed reading, photography, co-hosting video and podcasts productions with his son, vlogging and video documentation, geocaching, camping, trail hiking, travelling, geography, genealogy, history, sports, and astronomy.
As one of his greatest personal accomplishments, Brent made radio contact and spoke to Astronaut Douglas H. Wheelock, who was onboard the International Space Station.
One of Brent’s top bucket-list goals was to travel to the United Kingdom to explore his families history, genealogy, and origin. He fulfilled this dream in 2019, and again in 2024. It was one of the best memories of his life.
Brent will be remembered for his unwavering knowledge of almost everything, and was often referred to as a walking encyclopedia. His humour, smile, and willingness to help others are unforgettable traits of Brent. He made personal connections and friendships around the entire world through his profession(s) and hobbies. He had many nicknames over the years, but one that stands out the most is “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time).
