Burton Charles Ian Godfrey
1930-2021
Burton Charles Ian Godfrey, husband of Ethel (MacDonald) Godfrey of Miramichi, NB, passed away at the Eastside Special Care Home on Sunday, August 1st, 2021, at the age of 90.
Born in the former town of Chatham, NB on November 27th, 1930, he was the son of the late Charles and Hallie (Lockerbie) Godfrey. He was a member of Knox United Church, Loggieville, where he served as an Elder and Clerk of Session, and also taught Sunday School.
Burton was a Parts Manager at Lounsbury for many years and was also known to be an avid gardener and horse-lover. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, and will be missed by his wife of 64 years, Ethel; son, Eric (Heather) of Miramichi; sister, Shirley Gibson of Riverview, NB; grandchildren: Amanda (Sean) Clark, Justin (Kenzie) Godfrey, and Abby (Shane) Rogers; and great-grandchildren: Ian Clark, and Charlie Godfrey. He is predeceased by his parents; and step-brothers: Murray, and Hugh Godfrey.
A visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Wednesday, August 4th, 2021, from 2-4 PM, and 7-9 PM. The funeral service took place at Knox United Church, 4400 Water St., Miramichi, on Thursday, August 5th, at 2 PM, with The Rev. David Allan as Officiant. Music for the service was provided by Janet Stothart (pipe organ), Al Fraser ("Where Roses Never Fade"), and granddaughter Abby Godfrey ("You Raise Me Up"). The hymns were: "All the Way My Saviour Leads Me", and "Precious Lord, Take My Hand". A memorial candle was lit by Shirley Gibson. The eulogy was given by granddaughter, Amanda Clark. Scripture readings were read by Wendell Gregan. The honorary pallbearers were: Keith Dealy, Glen Lockerbie, Jimmy Lockerbie, Ralph Lockerbie, Brian MacDougall, Kenny Quinn, Stephen Ross, and Dave Walsh. The active pallbearers were: Sean Clark, Chris Gibson, Eric Godfrey, Justin Godfrey, Edgar Murray, Paul Robichaud, Shane Rogers, and Rick Taylor. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery.
