Byron A. MacColl Obituary

Byron A. MacColl

    1954 – 2022

Byron Alexander MacColl, husband of the late Ellen MacColl of Black River Bridge, New Brunswick, passed away at his residence on September 12, 2022, at the age of 68.

Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, on January 24, 1954, he was the son of both the late Ernest and Agnes MacColl.  Byron was well known in the Miramichi area as the "Grave-Digger" for over 30 years.  He was the first to help someone and be there for you if need be.

Byron was part of the Black River Community Cemetery Committee for many years.  He always loved being a part of the local bowling league, and always enjoyed himself when he was on a boat with family and friends.  Byron and Ellen also loved going to church suppers together.  A true passion of his that brought him great joy was his 1954 GMC truck.  His true love and true companion was his dog, Teddy.

Byron is survived by his children: Kim Taylor (Chris) of Napan, Shelley White (Aaron) of Napan Bay, Angie MacColl (Mark Dick) of Napan, Kerri Witty (Jason) of Newmarket, ON, and Jamie MacColl (Mary) of Black River Bridge; eight grandchildren: Kristyn, Harlie, Zac, Brandon, Tyson, Makayla, Tyler, and Teagan; two sisters: Barbara Somers of Black River Bridge and Ruth Thompson (Bill) of Napan; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Ellen MacColl; and brother-in-law, Jack Somers.

Visitation occurred at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Friday, September 16, 2022, from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM.  A funeral service occurred at St. Stephen’s United Church, Black River Bridge, NB, on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 2 PM with The Reverend Cycil Symes as Officiant.  Music for the service was provided by Sandra Somers (Pianist), Maggie Somers (Vocalist), Emma Somers (Vocolist/Violinist), and Jenny Somers (Vocalist).  The songs were:  "Because He Lives", "Raise Me Up", "Dad", "Jealous of the Angels".  The recessional was "To Where You Are".  Tributes were given by Kristyn Taylor and Kerri Witty.  The Reverend Cory Somers assisted with the committal service.  A scripture reading was read by Makayla Le at this time and "Amazing Grace" was played by Violinist, Emma Somers. The Active Pallbearers were grandchildren:  Zac Taylor, Tyson MacColl, Brandon Le, Tyler McColl, Harlie Dick, and Teagan McColl.  The Honorary Pallbearers were:  Billy Thompson, Jamie Patterson, Benny Williston, Laurie Patterson, Wayne Gifford, Dale Cameron, Boyce Somers, Blaine Dickson, and John Dick.  Interment was in the Black River Community Cemetery, Black River Bridge, NB. A reception followed in the church basement.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Black River Community Cemetery or St. Stephen’s United Church would be appreciated by the family.

Byron’s family would like to thank Hospice Miramichi and NB Extra-Mural for their wonderful compassion and care.

Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, NB, telephone (506) 773-3492, or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca
