1931 – 2024
Capt. Theodore Williston, husband of the late Jean (Gregan) Williston of Miramichi, NB, and formerly of Hardwicke, NB, passed away at home on June 2, 2024, at the age of 93.
Born in Hardwicke, NB, on February 1, 1931, he was the son of the late Alexander and Grace (Gregan) Williston. Capt. was a Commercial Fisherman and he started being on the water with his Uncle Charlie at 5 years old. In his early 20’s, he was the youngest captain during the Escuminac Disaster and continued to be Captain until he was 85 years old. He was so very thankful to be a survivor of the 1959 Escuminac Disaster.
Capt. is survived by one daughter, Joan Blackmore of Miramichi; two sons: Ted Williston (Rachelle Pelletier), and Mark Williston (Elda), both of Hardwicke; grandchildren: Krystal Blackmore (George Inglis) of Halifax, NS, Cyndi Chaisson (Joel) of Miramichi, Tiffany Blackmore Doyle (Doug Morehouse) of Miramichi, Alicia Williston of Moncton, and Scott Williston (Colombe) of Hardwicke; step-grandchildren: Janessa (Jason), Samatha (Jordan), and Emma; great-grandchildren: David & Grace MacLaughlin, Peter, Michael & Pamela Doyle, Adèle & Céleste Williston, Thea & Fiona Chaisson; sisters, Anne Stock (late Bill) of Coldwater, ON, and Emily Beers (late Elmer) of Moncton; brother, Ray Williston (Jeanie) of Moncton; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Jean (Gregan) Williston; sister, Ruth Johnston (Harold); and son-in-law, Gary Blackmore.
Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi, on Sunday, June 9, 2024, from 2-4 PM, and 7-9 PM. A Funeral Service was held at St. Stephen’s United Church, Black River Bridge, NB, on Monday, June 10, 2024, at 3 PM, with The Reverend David Allan, and The Reverend Thomas W.L. Nisbett as Officiants. Music Ministry was provided by David Mann and the Loggieville Black River Joint Choir. The hymns were: "Eternal Father, Strong to Save", "The Day You Gave Us, God, Is Ended", with the recessional being "I Feel the Winds of God". The Eulogy was by Krystal Blackmore. The Scripture Reader was The Reverend Ivan Gregan. A poem "Crossing the Bar" was read by Alphonse Doucette with Terry Power. The Active Pallbearers were Theodore and Jean's Grandchildren. The Honorary Pallbearers were: Donna Allen, Olive Boute, Carmel McIntyre, Mireille McIntyre, Rose Steeves, Jill Stewart, Barb Stinson, Olive Trevors, Catherine Williston, Velma Williston, and Shirley Cook. The Guard of Honor was formed by Theodore's fellow Fishermen. Interment was in the Black River Community Cemetery.
A reception and gathering followed at 4:30 PM from the Centre Communautaire de Baie-Sainte-Anne, 5447 NB-117, Baie-Sainte-Anne, NB.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
