In Loving Memory of Carmel M. Gallant
July 12, 1923 – September 27, 2023
Mary Lima Carmelita (Murdoch) Gallant, wife of the late Harold E. Gallant of Miramichi, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital surrounded by her family at the age of 100.
Carmel was born in Chatham on July 12, 1923, to the late Elizabeth (MacDermott) Murdoch Shortall and the late James R. Murdoch. Carmel was a member of the C.W.L and retired teachers. She truly loved and enjoyed attending St. Andrew’s Catholic Church.
Carmel is survived by her sons: Harry (Shirley) and Greg (Sandra); daughter, Mary (Herbie) Jenkins; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Dona), Terri Lynn (Keith), Harold (Jen), Brent and Barrett (Angela); five great-grandchildren: Devon (Tess), Megan (Mitch), Aimee Lynn (Gavin) and Sydney and also special great-granddaughter, Adleigh.
Carmel was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and James Murdoch; step-father, John Shortall; half-brother, Raymond Whyte (Alice); and special friend, Romeo Gallant.
Words can’t express the appreciation for the kindness and care given to mom by Dr. Gerard Losier, Staff on 2 West and 4 East during her stay at the hospital. Thank you to the care given by the Extra-Mural Nurses at home for the past two years. Thank You from all the family.
Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi, on Sunday, October 1st, 2023, from 4-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, on Monday, October 2nd, 2023, at 11 AM with The Reverend Father Dan Bastarache as Celebrant and The Reverend Father Leon Cream as Concelebrant. Music for the service was provided by Mr. Mike Davis. The entrance hymn was "Here I Am, Lord", "Into Your Hands", Be Not Afraid", "Hallelujah", and "Songs of the Angels". The recessional hymn was "Prepare the Way, O Zion". The Eulogy was presented by Harry Gallant. The First Scripture Reading was by Terri Lynn Mills. The Second Scripture Reading was by Sydney Gallant. The Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Jen Stevens-Gallant. The Active Pallbearers were: Harold Gallant, Devon Gallant, Brent Jenkins, Barrett Jenkins, Bruce Whyte, and Phil Whyte. Members of the Miramichi Retired Teachers Association formed a Guard of Honor. Interment was in St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Loggieville, Miramichi, NB.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
