In Loving Memory of David John Cook
David John Cook, husband of Claudine Marie (Doucet) Cook of Redmondville, New Brunswick, passed away very peacefully with his daughter Susan by his side at Hospice Miramichi on January 22, 2024, at the age of 74.
Born in Chatham, NB, on September 8, 1949, David John Cook was the son of both the late Hillarian and Frances (Thompson) Cook.
David is survived by his wife, Claudine; two daughters: Jolene McPhail (Eric) of Bouctouche, NB, and Susan Blanchard (Bruno) of Aldouane, NB; two sons, Gary Cook of Barrie, ON, and Mark Cook (Anne) of Grande Prairie, AB; four sisters: Rose Sweeney (Paul), Shirley Stewart, Geraldine Mullin, and Elizabeth Flanagan; two brothers: Reginald Cook (Barbra) and Leigh Thompson (Elaine); seven grandchildren: Ashley, Stephanie, Cole, Paige, Seth, Owen, and Darrien; four great-grandchildren: Logan, Brooklyn, Sophia and Patrick; as well as sisters-in-law: Annette and Ninnie; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers, and his best friends: Kenneth Cook, Bernie Cook, and Michael Cook.
David was a diligent and dedicated worker for many years at Robert Hitchman Construction as a foundation builder. During his prime years, he could be seen daily at his typical meeting spots, Bernie’s Garage or Kenneth's, two places where often friends’ family and neighbors would gather to catch up on the news on a weekend morning or after a project or hard days of work around the yard. David never shied away from hard work, whether it was tending to the garden with Claudine and Kenneth or helping with next year's firewood, harvesting chickens or livestock on the farm, or any other task at hand. He was a reliable helping hand whenever needed, as well as just great company to sit back and share a drink or a tale.
His passion for lending a helping hand went beyond family ties. David was always there for others, ready to assist in any way he could. His commitment to the well-being of those around him will leave an indelible mark on the community. He was an important part of many people's lives, and he will be greatly missed by his friends and family. David’s adventurous spirit made him a willing companion on many drives, and he was always the one to add a touch of excitement and spontaneity to our lives. He lived and loved a simple life and found happiness in the little things, such as just being out for a drive and visiting friends and family around the community on his lawnmower or tractor. He embraced life with open arms, finding joy in the journey of everyday life.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful extra mural and hospice nurses who provided exceptional care and support to David and his family during his final days.
