Dawn Stephenson Obituary

Dawn C. R. Stephenson
1933- 2021

Passing date:  February 5, 2021

Dawn Clara Robina Stephenson, wife of the late George Stephenson of Miramichi, NB, passed away peacefully at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 87.

Born on August 8, 1933 in Montreal, Quebec, she was the daughter of the late George “Ted” and Gladys “Irene” (Gladwish) Harrington.

Dawn is survived by her two children:  son, Gary, and daughter, Esther (Jeff) Swaine, and grandchildren:  Mitchell Swaine and Lauryn Swaine, all of Miramichi; sister, Gail McGuire (late John); brothers:  Clyde Harrington (late Laurel), Laurie Harrington (Susan), Calvin Harrington (Jill); and was the Aunt to many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Mary MacDonald.

Besides her parents and husband George, she was predeceased by her sisters:  Sylvia (John) Fitka, Barbara Harrington; and brother, Harvey (Mae) Harrington.

Dawn lived in the Montreal area where she met George as a young woman.  The two married and enjoyed living in various bases in Canada and Europe while George served in the Canadian Airforce. The two returned to George’s home town of Chatham, NB and together they enjoyed serving the community operating their family business “Stephenson’s Groceries”.  In retirement Dawn enjoyed spending time with her family especially her two grandchildren, talking and visiting with her family in Ontario and neighbours.

Dawn will be remembered for her kind, gentle personality, her love of animals, and her thoughtfulness to everyone she knew and met. She loved deeply and completely with great faith and hope. We will miss her presence but are comforted that she has rejoined her loved ones in Heaven.

There was no visitation by request.  The funeral service was held at St. Andrew's United Church, 188 Wellington St. Miramichi, and officiated by The Reverend Charlene Maguire MacKnight, and The Reverend Perry Cooper.  Music for the service was provided by Lois McKinnon and Church Choir Members.  The hymns were:  "Amazing Grace", Nearer, My God, to Thee", "The Old Rugged Cross", "On Eagle's Wings", and "Go Now in Peace".  Lighting of the Memory Candle was by Lauryn Swaine.  Scripture readings were read by:  Mitchell Swaine, Brent Morehouse, Juanita O'Reilly, and The Reverend Perry Cooper.  Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made in Dawn's memory to the Miramichi SPCA, Power for Pets, St. Andrews United Church, or St. Mary’s Anglican Church.

Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492, or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca
