In Loving Memory of Diane Martin

1940 – 2026 

It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Diane (Grattan) Martin, who passed away peacefully at Losier Hall on April 16, 2026, at the age of 86. 

Born in Saint John, NB, on April 16, 1940, Diane was the daughter of Frank Grattan and Geneviève Breau, who later made their home in Neguac, NB.

Throughout her life, Diane worked many jobs and was known for her strong work ethic and dedication. She began as a store clerk for the Thériault family, later worked in a fish plant, and spent many years babysitting children in her community. She eventually became the postmistress at the Baie‑Ste‑Anne Post Office, a role she held proudly for several years. After leaving that position, she returned to the workforce at a lobster processing plant, a job she truly enjoyed until illness forced her to step away. Once her health stabilized, she continued giving back to others by working as a caregiver and later returning to babysitting before finally retiring.

In her spare time, Diane loved playing bingo and Rummoli, and she enjoyed walking — remaining an avid walker even into her 80s. One of her greatest joys was attending dances with friends and family, where her lively spirit always shone through.

Diane will be deeply missed by her daughter, Marie‑Louise Robichaud (Arcade) of Pointe‑Sapin; her sons, Keith and Steven, both of Baie‑Ste‑Anne; her sisters, Evelyne Breau (late François) and Doreen Grattan‑Gay (Danny); and her brothers, Laurie Grattan (Colette) and Frank Grattan Jr. She leaves behind seven grandchildren — Lydia (Corey), Steven (Chantal), Mike, Michael, Alex, Kathia, and Cara (Tim) — as well as eleven great‑grandchildren: Justin, Connor, Maxime, Logan, Liam, Malik, Lily, Evan, Sophie, Cobi, Jace, Chase and Mason.

She is predeceased by her parents; her loving husband, Adelard; her eldest son, Franky; her cherished first granddaughter, Mendy; and her brothers, Guy Kelly and Charles Grattan.

Diane’s warmth, resilience, and kindness touched many lives. Her memory will be forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held at Sister Blondine Martin Slumber Room, 5351 Route 117, Baie-Sainte-Anne, New Brunswick, on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm and also on Thursday, April 23, 2026, from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sainte-Anne’s Catholic Church at 1:30 pm with The Reverend Father Jean Bélisle as Celebrant.  Interment will be in Sainte-Anne’s Catholic Cemetery.

C’est avec une profonde tristesse que la famille annonce le décès de Diane (Grattan) Martin, qui s’est éteinte paisiblement au Losier Hall le 16 avril 2026, à l’âge de 86 ans. 

Née à Saint John, N.-B., le 16 avril 1940, Diane était la fille de Frank Grattan et de Geneviève Breau, qui se sont ensuite établis à Neguac, N.-B.

Tout au long de sa vie, Diane a occupé de nombreux emplois et était reconnue pour sa grande éthique de travail et son dévouement. Elle a commencé comme commis de magasin pour la famille Thériault, a ensuite travaillé dans une usine de poisson, puis a passé plusieurs années à garder des enfants dans sa communauté. Elle est finalement devenue maîtresse de poste au bureau de poste de Baie‑Ste‑Anne, un rôle qu’elle a occupé avec fierté pendant plusieurs années. Après avoir quitté ce poste, elle est retournée sur le marché du travail dans une usine de transformation du homard, un emploi qu’elle appréciait énormément jusqu’à ce que la maladie l’oblige à s’arrêter. Une fois sa santé stabilisée, elle a continué à aider les autres en travaillant comme aide‑soignante, puis en revenant à la garde d’enfants avant de finalement prendre sa retraite.

Dans ses temps libres, Diane aimait jouer au bingo et au Rummoli, et elle appréciait les promenades — demeurant une marcheuse assidue même dans la quatre-vingtaine. L’un de ses plus grands plaisirs était d’assister à des danses avec ses amis et sa famille, où sa joie de vivre brillait toujours.

Diane laisse dans le deuil sa fille, Marie‑Louise Robichaud (Arcade) de Pointe‑Sapin; ses fils, Keith et Steven, tous deux de Baie‑Ste‑Anne; ses sœurs, Evelyne Breau (feu François) et Doreen Grattan‑Gay (Danny); ainsi que ses frères, Laurie Grattan (Colette) et Frank Grattan Jr. Elle laisse également dans le deuil sept petits‑enfants — Lydia (Corey), Steven (Chantal), Mike, Michael, Alex, Kathia et Cara (Tim) — ainsi que onze arrière‑petits‑enfants : Justin, Connor, Maxime, Logan, Liam, Malik, Lily, Evan, Sophie, Cobi, Jace, Chase et Mason.

Elle est précédée dans la tombe par ses parents; son époux bien‑aimé, Adelard; son fils aîné, Franky; sa première petite‑fille adorée, Mendy; ainsi que ses frères, Guy Kelly et Charles Grattan.

La chaleur, la résilience et la gentillesse de Diane ont marqué de nombreuses vies. Sa mémoire restera à jamais gravée dans le cœur de tous ceux qui l’ont connue et aimée.

La veillée aura lieu à la salle de nuit Sister Blondine Martin, 5351 Route 117, Baie-Sainte-Anne, Nouveau-Brunswick, le mercredi 22 avril 2026, de 18 h à 20 h, ainsi que le jeudi 23 avril 2026, de 11 h 30 à 13 h 30. La messe de funérailles chrétiennes aura lieu à l’église catholique Sainte-Anne avec le Révérend Père Jean Bélisle comme célébrant. L’inhumation aura lieu au cimetière catholique Sainte-Anne.
