Dolores Winnifred Deredin was born on June 29, 1934, in Chatham, New Brunswick, the daughter of Jean Wilbur Deredin and Alma Clara O'Kane. She died on Sunday, June 25, 2023, in Miramichi. She was 88 years old, just four days shy of turning 89 years old. She is predeceased by her parents, her first husband Edwin Adams, her second husband William McDermaid, her sisters Mary Phyllis (Deredin) Martin and Catherine Elizabeth (Deredin) Trevors, and her two brothers Raymond Benedict Deredin and Wilbur Joseph Deredin.

She had a great love of oil painting (having painted over 180 paintings) and drawing. She had a talent for the writing of thoughtful stories, especially stories for children. Perhaps you read one "Tear Drop" about the mouse that lived in Santa's pocket published in the Miramichi Leader. She operated a seniors care home in Chatham caring for 9 seniors in her home which she called Dolwin Manor- Dol for Dolores and Win for Winnifred. She had some 20 lovebirds she raised and loved and was justifiably called the bird lady of Chatham by her friends and family. She loved working with the earth and planted a large variety of flowers every year. She held regular suppers with family and friends including clergy and Mikmaq elders with great conversations and fun.
The Requiem Mass for Dolores was held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, (her 89th birthday) at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Basilica in Miramichi at 2:00 p.m. followed by a Christian Burial in the Basilica cemetery. Music for the service was provided by Mr. David Bonnell.
