In Loving Memory of Donna Maria Muriel Smith

October 30, 1948 - February 1, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Donna Maria Muriel Smith (Hudgins), wife of the late Lloyd Smith (September 2014) of Miramichi, New Brunswick, on February 1, 2025, at the age of 76 at Percy’s Place, surrounded by family.

Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, on October 30, 1948, Donna Maria Muriel Smith was the daughter of the late Donald and Muriel Hudgins (Worrall).

Mom devoted her life to our family and after we graduated, she returned to the workforce working at Canadian Tire serving customers for 25 years.  Mom was an active member of the Calvin Presbyterian Church, the Women’s League and the church choir.

Mom’s favorite pastimes were bowling, boating with Dad, spending time at the wharf enjoying the music, and socializing and summer visits with family in Nova Scotia.

Mom loved the time spent with Madison and Darcie, especially the trip to Florida, baking cookies and muffins with them and making them her delicious chicken soup.

Mom is survived by her son, Scott Smith (Paulette Breau Smith); and daughter, Shawna (Junior) Goguen, both of Miramichi, NB; beloved granddaughters, Madison and Darcie Goguen; and fur-babies, Sparkee, Mia, and Buddy; brothers:  Keith Hudgins (Roxanne) of Miramichi, NB, Bernard Hudgins (Joanie) of New Maryland, NB, Kevin Hudgins (Megan); and sister, Geraldine Larsen (Glenn Weatherston) of Miramichi, NB; sister-in-law, Penny Smith of Miramichi, NB; and several nieces and nephews; and special friend, David Hanson of Rexton, NB.  Besides her parents, and husband, Lloyd, Donna is predeceased by her brother-in-law, Garth Smith. 

The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Gerard Losier for the excellent care for many years.

We would like to thank the staff of Losier Hall for the excellent care and kindness provided to Mom for the past year.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gerard Losier and staff at Percy’s Place for their kindness, care, and compassion in Mom’s final days.

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, NB, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 4-8 PM.  Funeral service was held at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 37 King St., Miramichi, NB, on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 11 AM, with Pastor Derrick Carnahan as Officiant.  Music for the service was provided by Organist, Mrs. Heather Fleiger, and Soloist, Sheena Jones.  The musical selection included a solo, "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow", followed by hymns:  Here I Am Lord", "In the Garden", and the recessional hymn "Because He Lives".  The Honorary Pallbearers were:  Caroline Daley, Rita Carroll, Donna Tower, and Cheryll Innes.  A special poem was read by Paulette Breau Smith.  The Eulogy was by Geraldine Larsen.  A scripture reading was read by Carol Stymiest.  The Active Pallbearers were:  Andrea Theriault, Bradley Briggs, Troy Sippley, Jason Daley, Darren Matchett, and Greg Dennis.  A reception for all was held following the funeral service in the Calvin Presbyterian Church Hall.  Interment will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Miramichi, NB.
