E. Carolyn Whyte

   1930 – 2022

Elizabeth Carolyn Whyte, wife of the late Rev. Mr. Robert Whyte of Miramichi, New Brunswick, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on September 30, 2022, at the age of 92.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on May 4, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Judge FB (Barry) and E. May (Jennings) Bagshaw.  She attended UBC, earning a BA in English, and then later she earned a certificate in Social Work from St. Thomas University.

Carolyn was a Human Service Counsellor and for many years worked at the Miramichi Rehabilitation Centre.  She attended St. Michael’s Basilica and was very active in community events including memberships in the C.W.L., RCIA, Girl Guides, Miramichi Quilt Guild, Mount St. Joseph Aux, Chatham Daycare Board, Bridge Club, and Early Intervention Board.

Carolyn is survived by her two daughters: Mary Margaret Yates (Charles) of London, England, and Heather A. Smith of Miramichi; two sons: Dr. Peter Whyte of Dundas, Ontario, and Andrew Whyte of Vancouver, BC.; eight grandchildren: Anthony, Nicholas, Carol, Scott, Timothy, Joshua, Jeremy, and Lisa; eight great-grandchildren: Tanner, Tessa, Autumn, Alex, Jacob, Abigail, George, and Declan; one special great-great-granddaughter, Gracelynn; as well as nephew, James Haviland of Halifax.  She was predeceased by her parents, and husband Rev. Mr. Robert Whyte.

Visitation occurred at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial occurred at St. Michael’s Basilica on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 1 PM with The Reverend Father Dan Bastarache as Celebrant.  Music for the service was provided by Jackie Allain.  The Processional hymn was "I bind myself unto the Lord".  Other hymns included "Here I am Lord", "Gentle Woman", and "Eagles Wings" with the recessional being "Thine by the Glory.  The Homily was by The Reverend Fr. Dan Bastarache.  The First Scripture Reading was read by Marg Sweeney, and the Second Scripture Reading was by Barb McLaughlin.  The Active Pallbearers were:  Scott Gaudin, Joshua Smith, Jeremy Smith, Jacob Smith, Luc Cormier, and Brian Bernard.  Guards of Honor were formed by both the C.W.L, and Girl Guides of Canada.  Members of the Girl Guides of Canada performed "Daytime Taps".  The interment was in St. Michael’s Cemetery. A reception followed in the church basement.
