Earl Assels Obituary

Earl Assels

1951 – 2020

It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the death of our dear husband/father Earl Assels who passed away peacefully on July 25, 2020 at the Bridgeview Hall, Miramichi at the age of 68.

Earl was born on December 10, 1951 in New Carlisle, Quebec and spent his younger years there.  In his early teenage years he moved and settled in Gaspe, Quebec which became his home.

He was the biological son of the late Frank and Laurine (Chatterton) Assels of New Carlisle, QC and the foster son of the late Ralph and Jessie Clark of Gaspe, QC.

He was a welder by trade, who loved and took pride in his work and he was good at it.  He was an employee for Noranda Mines in Gaspe for many years, and also worked a few years at the Ship Building and could be found doing welding jobs on the side for family and friends.

In his younger years Earl loved and excelled in sports and was very involved in hockey and baseball.  As he grew older he enjoyed golf and loved going to the golf course every chance he got.  He also enjoyed travelling, driving and spending quality time with those he loved.  He will also be remembered for being a dedicated Toronto Maple Leafs fan!

He was a very hard working man who was first and foremost dedicated and devoted to his wife and children.  He was a family man who always put family first.  There is nothing he wouldn’t have done for them.  He was kind, caring, loving, determined and very strong-willed.

Earl was always very well known in his home town of Gaspe.  He knew everybody, loved to stop and talk and tell stories to everyone he met.  He was always laughing, joking and happy.  He always made himself available for helping out, lending a helping hand or doing odd jobs for those who were in need.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Krista of 42 years of Gaspe QC/Napan, NB; three children: Jaime of Napan, Erin (Shawn Rooney) of Chateauguay, QC and Darcy (Ashley Rooney) of Chateauguay, QC; his grandchildren: Riley, Liam, Hannah, Tate and Grayson; his grand-dog, Abby; his biological brothers and sisters: Jim (Sue), Danny (Shirley), Billy, Joan (Robert), Laurine (Harris) and Bev (Keith); his foster brothers: Walter, Stephen (Kathy), Ronald (Carolyn) and Gary (Nancy); many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was predeceased by his biological parents, foster parents, foster brothers and sisters: Morris, Della, Kingsley, Gail and Rita.

He will forever be in our hearts and will always be loved and missed.

Due to both the Covid-19 and per Earl’s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service.  Burial of Earl’s ashes will take place at St. Andrews Church in York, Gaspe, QC at a later date with immediate family only.

As expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or S.P.C.A would be appreciated by the family.  Arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St. Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492 or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca
