In Loving Memory of Eileen M. Bowes

1932 – 2024

Surrounded by love, Eileen Mary Bowes (Cook) of Chatham, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully at Percy's Place on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at the age of 91.

She is survived by son, David Bowes (Pat) of Chatham, and daughter, Margaret (Peggy) Stewart (William) of Nelson.  Eileen leaves behind sisters: Lourdes Turnbull, Lill Doiron, Shirley Savoie-Cook; and brother, James Cook; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her four grandchildren: Bradley Stewart (Lesley), Amy Stewart-Hayes (Elwyn), Melodie Bowes (Julien Lalonde), and Angela Bowes (Kevin Clark) will miss her precocious personality and kindness.  Nine great-grandchildren: Hudson Hayes, Cullen Hayes, Abby Hayes, Arlo Clark, Jack Stewart, Cohen Stewart, Case Stewart, Alaric Lalonde, and Clementine Lalonde will remember Nanny B’s delicious Sunday dinners and undivided attention.

Eileen is predeceased by husband, Roy Joseph Bowes; and parents, Stanley and Hamilyn Cook (Graham); as well as siblings: Mel Cook, Richard Cook, Jean Olsen, Carmel Williams, Laura Morrow, and Junior Cook.

Nanny B. loved her family and friends, sharing a laugh, swimming with the girls, trips out West, fashion, and to cook for her family… camp style.  She will be missed immensely.

As per Nanny B’s wishes there will be no visitation.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at 11 AM with The Reverend Father John Fraser as Celebrant.  Music for the service was provided by Mr. David Bunnell and St. Michael's Basilica Choir and the hymns were "Here I Am Lord", "The Lord Is My Shepherd", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman", "Be Not Afraid" and "Songs of the Angels".  "Amazing Grace" was sung by nephew, Gary Cook.  The scripture readings were read by granddaughter, Melodie Bowes Lalonde and niece, Nancy Doiron Maillet and the Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by niece, Laura Cook Ross.  The eulogy was presented by granddaughter-in-law, Lesley Stewart.  

the urn was carried by son, David Bowes.  Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery later in the spring.

As expressions of sympathy, donations in memory of Eileen may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

The family would like to thank the kind and supportive staff of Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home, and also Dr. Losier and staff at Percy’s Place for their kindness to Eileen in her final hours.  Welcome home Nanny B.
