Elizabeth "Beth" Joyce MacKenzie Obituary
In Loving Memory of Elizabeth “Beth” Joyce MacKenzie
November 29, 1960 – December 20, 2025
Our Angel on Earth, Elizabeth “Beth” Joyce MacKenzie, went to Heaven suddenly on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at Mount Saint Joseph, Miramichi, New Brunswick, at the age of 65. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Chatham, New Brunswick, on November 29, 1960, she was the precious daughter of the late James and Helen (Atkinson) MacKenzie of Napan, New Brunswick.
Beth attended the Kinsmen School in Newcastle; graduated from NBCC in Chatham in June of 1991 as a Modified Office Clerk; and completed American Sign Language evening classes from NBCC, which was a form of communication she cherished and used daily. Beth was also involved with Special Olympics (bowling) and attended M.O.R.E. Services, where she worked at NBCC Daycare and the Chatham Save-Easy. She volunteered at the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home and also helped deliver Meals-on-Wheels with her loving parents. Beth had various interests, such as American Sign Language, piano, keyboard, ukulele, knitting, hook-rugging, word search, and board games.
Beth was the most lovable, affectionate, all-inclusive person who thoroughly enjoyed her family and friends, especially Judy Gilliss and Patty Flieger. She loved a good laugh or a joke, especially when she could prank someone else! Her smile, giggle, and laughter were so contagious!
Beth attended Carmel United Church with her parents and family for many years. Beth was a familiar and welcoming presence. Through her smiles, her music, and her genuine affection for others, she enriched the life of the church and the wider community. Beth had a remarkable way of making people feel seen and valued, and her kindness left a lasting impression on all who encountered her. Appropriately named, Elizabeth “Joy”ce brought joy to her family, friends, and everyone she met.
Beth is survived by her sisters, Donna MacKenzie (Brian Gilliss), Patti MacKenzie (Stacy MacPherson), and Christine MacKenzie, all of Napan, New Brunswick; her aunt Catherine of Ontario; her aunt Mary Atkinson of Miramichi; as well as many beloved and doting nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; her special cousin, Helen Godfrey; long-time friend, Lynn MacDonald; and numerous other cherished cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, Jimmy and Helen MacKenzie; sisters, Susan Jean (infant), Sandra Gilliss, and Dianne MacKenzie; nephew, Aaron Gilliss; and great-nephew, baby Grady Gilliss.
A Celebration of Beth’s Life was held at Carmel United Church, 795 South Napan Road, Napan, New Brunswick, on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with The Reverend Ivan Gregan as officiant. A fellowship reception followed the service in the church basement. Music for the service was provided by Barb Somers and the Loggieville/Black River Pastoral Charge Choir and the songs were "You Are My Sunshine", "Away In A Manger" and "Jesus Love Me". The eulogy was presented by sister Christine MacKenzie. The scripture readings were read by sister Patti MacKenzie and a poem "Life Well Lived" was read by niece Shannon Peach. The pallbearers were Brian Gilliss, Stacy MacPherson, Scott Grasman, Will MacKenzie, Brad Gilliss and Dean Gilliss. The Honorary Pallbearers were Helen Godfrey, Barbara Morrison, Joan MacKenzie, Clifford (Skippy) MacKenzie, Colin Atkinson and Heather Grasman. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery, Black River Bridge, New Brunswick, later in the spring.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Carmel United Church, Mount St. Joseph Foundation, Special Olympics, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to thank trusted caregiver and friend Linda Barry for the care at her home in Napan; Island View Special Care Home and all their gracious caregivers (special thank you to Wendy); as well as Region 7 Hospital, her family physician, Dr. Gerard Losier, Losier Hall, and especially the 4th floor of Mount St. Joseph for their compassionate care, smiles, and laughter with Beth. The family sincerely appreciated the kindness and dedication demonstrated which meant so much to Beth and her loved ones.
In honour of Beth’s gentle spirit and the love she shared so freely, the family encourages everyone to reach out to loved ones with kind words, a smile, and heartfelt gestures—simple acts of love that Beth so naturally embodied throughout her life.
Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, telephone (506) 773-3492. Messages of condolence may be shared online at www.adamsfh.ca.
