In Loving Memory of Elizabeth “Liz” Rita Taylor

1943 – 2023

We regret to announce the passing of our mother, Elizabeth Rita (MacGillivary) Taylor, wife of the late William (Bill) Taylor on Sunday, September 24th, 2023, at Shannex-Losier Hall, Miramichi, New Brunswick, and formerly of Napan Bay, at the age of 79.

Liz was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, on November 30th, 1943, to the late Colin MacGillivary, and the late Mary (Cameron) MacGillivary.  She worked in the Dietary Department at the former Hotel Dieu Hospital and then in later years when the new hospital was opened, she worked as a Dietary Supervisor at the Miramichi Regional Hospital for many years. She was known to be a dedicated worker, kind and caring towards the patients she served, as well as to her colleagues who valued her advice. She was also a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. Liz was also involved in a Napan quilting group, and loved to travel with her kids and grandchildren. She was a caring Mother and proud Grandmother.

Liz is survived by her three sons: Mark Taylor of Miramichi, Brent Taylor of Black River Bridge, and Shawn Taylor of Napan Bay; her grandson, Peyton and granddaughter, Amy Elizabeth.  She is also survived by her brothers: Bill (Catherine) of Bayfield, NS, John Archie (Joan) of Antigonish, NS; her sisters: Kay Hart of Calgary, AB, Janet Sullivan of Guysborough, NS, Anne Byrne and Colleen Keating, both of Mississauga, ON; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her extended Taylor family.

Liz was predeceased by her husband, Bill (2021); and her parents, Colin and Mary MacGillivary.

Visitation occurred at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Friday, September 29th, 2023, from 2-4 PM, and 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, on Saturday, September 30th, 2023, at 10 AM, with The Reverend Father Dan Bastarache as Celebrant. Music for the service was provided by Mr. David Bunnell, and the St. Michael's Basilica Choir.  The entrance hymn was "Here I am Lord".  Following hymns included:  "The Lord is My Shepherd", "Prayer of St. Francis", "Taste and See", "Amazing Grace", and "Song of the Angels". The recessional hymn was "On Eagles' Wings".  The First Scripture Reading was by Joan MacGillivary.  The Second Scripture Reading was by Dorothy Taylor.  Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Dorothy Taylor.  The Active Pallbearers were:  Mark Taylor, Brent Taylor, Shawn Taylor, Peyton Taylor, Clarence Taylor, and Mac Taylor.  Interment will follow at a later date in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery, Loggieville, Miramichi, NB.

Words can’t express the appreciation for the kindness, compassion and care shown to our Mother by the Staff at Losier Hall. Thank you!

In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
