1929 – 2025
Ellen Mary (McLenaghan) Williston of Miramichi, New Brunswick, passed away at Percy’s Place, surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the age of 96.
Born in Auburnville, New Brunswick, on March 16, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Isabel (Williston) McLenaghan. She attended Pentecostals of Miramichi when she was able.
Ellen is survived by four daughters: Joan Carter (late Edward), Eileen Carter (Warren), and Donna Henry (late Gary), all of Miramichi, New Brunswick, and Doris Drost (Leslie) of Upham, New Brunswick; two sons: Benny Williston (Joan), and Blair Williston (Angie), both of Miramichi, New Brunswick; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; and thirteen great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Emerson Williston; two sons-in-law: Gary and Edward; sisters: Ada and Mildred; and brothers: Freeman, Norman, Bernard, Phineas, Reuben, Burton, Alvin, and William.
Ellen had a passion for working with her hands, whether it was woodworking, knitting, tending to her garden, or preparing delicious meals. She cherished spending quality time with her family, often embarking on memorable road trips to destinations like PEI, Florida, Ontario, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, and California.
Visitation was held at the Pentecostals of Miramichi, 146 King St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral service followed at 2 p.m., with The Reverend Pastor Peter Long officiating. Music for the service included "What a Day that Will Be" sung by The Reverend Keith Carter and Angela Carter, "In the Sweet By and By" sung by Bishop Brent Carter and Daphne Carter, with Kamden Carter accompanying the musical selections on the drums, and Bishop Brent Carter as Pianist. The recessional hymn was "Goodness of God". Memories were shared by Troy Henry, and Cheryl Ann Handrahan. The eulogy was presented by Doris Drost. The Active Pallbearers were: Warren Carter, Troy Henry, Les Drost, Brent Carter, Carson Cook, and Jarvis Munn. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery, Black River Bridge, New Brunswick, later in the spring.
