Evan Jeffrey McFarlane
July 13, 2008 – May 22, 2022
With broken hearts, Evan’s family announce his untimely death resulting from a tragic accident. Evan passed at the IWK Health Centre surrounded by his amazing, loving family.
Evan was full of life and light. He came into this world instantly looking to be entertained and wanting to have fun, this never ceased. Evan was not often seen without a smile on his face. He was a jokester, loved to tease and torment, especially his sister, Maya. Evan was a true athlete. He loved to be active, played multiple sports, and put his all into every sport he played.
Evan packed a lot of adventure and experiences into his almost 14 years with us. Most of his adventures coming from his passion, hockey. Evan lived and breathed hockey. We are so incredibly grateful for the friendships and memories Evan’s hockey life had given to him, and us. Evan had just recently finished up his first season of U15 AAA with the Northern Moose, wearing #11. It was a successful season for both Evan, and coach Dad. A special season for both, that solidified their already strong bond. Mom and Maya were always in the crowd cheering on their favourite hockey player.
Evan was a part of many organizations in the community:
-The Point Church
-Miramichi Minor Hockey Club in his younger years (Miramichi Wild)
-EDZA North Elite Hockey program for the past 3 years (Miramichi Rivermen, Northern Moose)
-Miramichi Valley Minor Baseball (Twins)
-East Coast Ice/Andrew’s Hockey
Evan leaves behind to celebrate his life and carry on his memory:
Mom and Dad, Jeffrey and Tianna McFarlane and younger, best hockey Sister and Cheerleader, Maya; his Fur Buddies Tuck and Bodie; Loving Grandparents, Susan McFarlane, Percy and Heather Flanagan; Great Grandmother, Bernadine McLean; his wonderful Aunts and Uncles: Sheri Lynn McFarlane and Ian Goguen, Carla and Chris Wormell, Brent and Kelly McFarlane, Carla and Billy Walsh, Lana and Bruce Loggie, Marsha and Kirk Sweezey, Lyle and Helene McLean; Cousins: Emma and Thomas Comeau, Josh and Matthew Goguen, Lalla McFarlane, and Ben Wormell, who Evan adored, looked up to like no one else, and considered more like an older brother; Melanie Duplessis who was like an aunt to Evan; as well as many great aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Evan had a multitude of friends, and he thought the world of them all. Evan’s first, and forever Best Friend Lincoln Allison. Classmates and Teammates. He loved being a part of a team. He loved to hang out with his “buds” and kept them entertained with his funny pictures and videos on Snapchat.
Evan was predeceased by his Grandfather “Poppy”, Ricky McFarlane.
A casual and laid back, Evan-style public visitation was held Friday, May 27, 2022, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at The Point Church, 582 King George Highway, Miramichi. A celebration of Evan’s life was held on Saturday, May 28th, 2022, at 1 PM from The Point Church, Miramichi, with family friend, Pastor Geoff McLean as Officiant. This celebration of Evan's fun, loving life included memories from Evan's Phone, a Gretna Green Tribute, A Coach's Tribute, and "We All Need Teamates" message by Pastor Geoff. The Honor Guards were teammates from the Northern Moose, Miramichi Rivermen, and Miramichi Twins. These three teams formed a Guard of Honor at the end of the service to surround the family with love. The Active Pallbearers were: David Lavigne, Kyle Allison, Kevin Allison, Andrew Burns, Michael Berube, and Gary Traer.
