Gerald "Gerry" McLaughlin Obituary
Gerald "Gerry" McLaughlin of New Brunswick passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at Nithview Home after only a week residing there, at the age of 77 years.
Cherished and loving father of Andrew McLaughlin and his wife Alanna Netterfield. Proud grandfather of Jameson and Sloane McLaughlin. Gerry is survived by brother Everett McLaughlin (Janet, passed), sister Lillias (Ted) Ross, sister-in-law Joyce (Jim) McLaughlin, nieces Pam (Gerry), Sandra (Pete, passed), Sherry-Lynn (Grant), and Natalie (Francis). Gerry will be dearly missed by his friend and former wife Kim (Vince) Alviano and by the Netterfield family.
Predeceased and reunited with his father and mother Archibald and Lillias (McCartney) McLaughlin, two sons Derek and Jason and brother Jim McLaughlin.
Gerry was an avid outdoorsman; he would always enjoy a round of golf with family or friends, he also loved walking and hiking, especially at the French Fort Cove in Miramichi. Gerry loved walking so much that when the weather impeded on his walks, he took up snow shoeing! He was a self-proclaimed wood worker whose creations will be cherished by all. He will be missed for Sunday night dinner and cards at his sisters where they would play euchre or a game of oh S#!t. Gerry was particularly good (and humble) at skunking people in a game of cribbage. Gerry was a proud employee for the Beer Store for over 30 years, retiring as Manager. Often, Gerry was found cheering on his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, possibly while indulging in his favourite saucy, delicious chicken wings. Gerry also loved his sweets and before his passing enjoyed a good slice of apple pie!
All who knew Gerry, will remember him as a kind and gentle man who would selflessly lend a hand without question. Please remember him over your next meal of chicken wings, or slice of apple pie and cherish those moments spent with him.
Cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg, Ontario, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, from 1 – 4 p.m. for a come and go Celebration of Life with refreshments. Gerry’s cremated remains will be returned to Miramichi, New Brunswick, and will rest peacefully with his beloved parents.
Interment was in St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Miramichi, New Brunswick, on May 17, 2025, at 11 a.m. A lunch followed in the church basement.
