It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerard J. Doucette of Miramichi, NB. He passed away peacefully at Percy’s Place, Miramichi, NB, on November 11, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 70.

Born in Chatham, NB, on September 19, 1954, he was the son of the late Frederick and Esther (Comeau) Doucette.  Gerard worked at CFB Chatham for years, followed by working at Chatham Town Center, finishing his working career at the Miramichi Golf & Country Club.  He was a member of St. Michael’s Basilica, Knights of Columbus, and Branch #3 Royal Canadian Legion.

Known for his warm smile and kind spirit, Gerard brought joy to everyone he met. He had a love for life that showed through in his many cherished hobbies, from golfing on sunny days to spending countless hours with the people he loved. Whether he was playing cards with friends or enjoying a coffee at Tim Hortons, Gerard filled every moment with laughter and love. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, friendship, and unforgettable memories. His love for music will live on through his children and grandchildren. Gerard will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched. In honouring Gerard’s life, may we carry forward his love for simple joys and time spent with loved ones.

Gerard is survived by his wife, Carole (McLaughlin) Doucette; two daughters: Amy McGraw (Matt) of Moncton, and Lori Hilchey (Cory) of Miramichi; two grandchildren: Mya McGraw, and Kenzie Hilchey; mother-in-law, Phyllis McLaughlin of Miramichi; four sisters: Theresa Traer (Abby) of Miramichi, Sandra Daigle (Hilaire) of Napan, Diane Walsh of Miramichi, and Anne Roy of Miramichi; sister-in-law, Valerie Fowler of Miramichi; brother-in-law, David McLaughlin (Joanne) of Miramichi; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Paul Doucette; father-in-law, Ken McLaughlin; and brothers-in-law: Bob Walsh, and Darryl Roy.

A Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, NB, on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 2-4 PM, and  7-9 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, NB, on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 11 AM,  with The Reverend Father John Fraser as Celebrant. Music for the service was provided by Mr. David Bonnell and Amy McGraw, Lori Hilchey and Kelly Berry and the hymns were "Here I Am Lord", "The Lord Is My Shepherd", "In The Garden", "On Eagle's Wings and "Songs of the Angels".  The scripture readings was read by Kelly Berry and Jason Daigle.  The Prayers of the Faithful was proclaimed by Jason Daigle and the eulogy was presented by Bob Lanteigne. 

The honorary pallbearers were Percy Comeau, Perry Comeau, Roger Comeau, Hilaire Daigle (brother-in-law), Gerald Dutcher, Jim Hickey, Cory Hilchey (son-in-law), Jim Kelly, Bob Lanteigne, Ralph Lockerbie, Matt McGraw (son-in-law), David McLaughlin (brother-in-law), Fred O'Brien, Mel Richard, Norm Richard, Steven Ross, Abby Traer (brother-in-law) and Bev Stymiest.  The Knights of Columbus sat as a body and formed a guard of honour.  Interment was in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Percy’s Place would be appreciated by the family.
