In Loving memory of Gerard (Jerry) Thompson
1953 – 2023
It is with great sadness that the family of Gerard (Jerry) Thompson announce his passing at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on November 11, 2023.
Born in Chatham, NB, on January 26, 1953, Jerry was the son of the late Hubert and Mary (Fenelon) Thompson.
Jerry was a gentle soul with a kind heart. He was quick to help anyone in need in anyway he could. He was a great story-teller and enjoyed a delightful wit and sense of humour.
Jerry was employed for most of his life in the fishing industry in NB and had retired in 2018.
Jerry enjoyed many pastimes and hobbies during his life. He was an avid follower of harness horse racing and was a past president of the North Shore Trotting Association in his younger years. Jerry followed boxing for many years and attended many “closed circuit” boxing matches in the 1970’s and 1980’s, particularly if they included his favorite boxer, Muhammad Ali! Jerry enjoyed travelling including trips to Florida, the New England States, New York, most of the Canadian provinces and even to Ireland. In his retirement years Jerry enjoyed cooking and reading. His Irish stews were his favorite.
Jerry is survived by his sister, Diane MacDonald (Wade) of Miramichi; brothers: Paul (Wanda) of St. Albert, AB, Derek and Phil of Miramichi; along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Pat; and sister, Ruth Anne.
At Jerry’s request there will be no visitation or funeral service. A Celebration of Jerry's Life will be held on a date and time with his close friends. Interment will occur in St. Michael’s Cemetery later in the spring.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to NB Heart & Stroke, or NB Lung Association would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, NB; telephone (506) 773-3492. Additionally, messages of condolence may be shared online at www.adamsfh.ca
