Halvor (Bud) Godfrey
1928 – 2022
It is with great sadness the family of Halvor (Bud) Godfrey, husband of the late Jean (Connell) Godfrey of Douglasfield, announce his peaceful passing at his residence with his family by his side on Thursday evening, January 13, 2022, at the age of 93.
Born in Douglasfield on December 23, 1928, he was the son of the late Lemuel and Audrey (Astles) Godfrey. He was a man of great faith and an active member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church. He served on the Vestry, Cemetery Committee and provided janitorial services, as well as volunteering as needed. Most of his working years he enjoyed working as a Truck Driver and with heavy equipment.
He was a man who loved the outdoors, hunting and spending time in the woods. Camping with his family in Tabusintac was the highlight of his summers. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids and their little ones. His smile was biggest when he seen them and they brightened every one’s day. In his younger days he enjoyed playing baseball and always loved hockey, helping coach his sons and never missed a Toronto Maple Leafs game on TV. Friday nights were special to Bud because that meant it was a night for cards.
Bud is survived by two daughters: Shirley Manderson (Tate) and Peggy St. Coeur (Weldon) both of Miramichi; one son, Douglas Godfrey (Cindy) of Miramichi; one daughter-in-law, Lori Robb of Miramichi; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Jean Godfrey; two sons: Allen and David Godfrey; granddaughter, Michelle Godfrey; great-grandson, Alexander St. Coeur; four sisters: Florence Harvey, Margie Walsh, Anne Doidge and Rena Wright.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private visitation took place. A private funeral service was held on February 5, 2022, at St. Paul's Anglican Church, officiated by The Reverend Perry Cooper, The Reverend Deacon Ted Quann, and The Reverend Deacon Eddie Quann. Music for the service was provided by organist, Janet Stothart and Soloist, Richard Walsh. The hymns were: "Here I am, Lord", "In the Garden", " Amazing Grace", "Breathe on me breath of God", and "Old Rugged Cross". The recessional hymn was " How Great Though Art". A tribute was given by Matthew Manderson. The layreader was Jim McCallum. The Active Pallbearers were grandsons: Mark Manderson, Matthew Manderson, Andrew Manderson, Scott Manderson, Wade St. Coeur, Brian St. Coeur, Michael St. Coeur, Tyler Godfrey, Mitchell Godfrey, and Justin Robb. The Honorary Pallbearers were: George & Etta McCallum, Reg & Joyce Johnston, Lloyd & Helen Stewart, Paul & Julia Connell, and Alton & Lorna Urquhart. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery later in the spring.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery Fund, Extra Mural Program, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements are entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492 or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca
