Hazel Agnes Watling Obituary

Hazel Agnes Watling

      1930-2023

Hazel Agnes Watling, wife of the late James Watling of Glenwood, New Brunswick, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Shannex-Losier Hall on February 26, 2023, at the age of 92.

Born in Black River Bridge, on August 29, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Robert MacDonald and the late Mary (Edge) MacDonald. Mother was a homemaker, known for her “World-Famous” molasses cookies, and other excellent baked goods such as her homemade bread and rolls. She was a strong lady and a hard worker, keeping a spotless home, tending to the farm chores, and helping care for her grandchildren. She was a talented seamstress, knitter, and quilter, with her perfectionism noted in every stitch and beautiful piece of work. Hazel was also a member of the St. Stephen’s United Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Voth of Miramichi; her son, Brent Watling of Glenwood, NB; six grandchildren: Amy (Yves), Matthew (Amanda), Jamie (Amy), Meaghan (Brittany), Ashley, and Cassie; four great-grandchildren: Ella, Joe, Olivier, and Jonathan; daughter-in-law: Gerry Watling of Miramichi; and one brother: Leonard MacDonald of Black River Bridge. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, James; son, Beverly Watling; brothers: Stan MacDonald, Herman MacDonald, and Eldon MacDonald; as well as sisters: Ruby Muir and Jean MacDonald.

A private visitation and funeral service occurred at Adams Funeral Home and Chapel, 140 King St., Miramichi, NB on March 3, 2023 at 11 am with The Reverend David Allan.  Music for the service was a recorded hymn "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" by Allan Jackson.   The lighting of the memory candle was done by Jamie Watling and the scripture readings were read by Amy Marie Watling and Amanda Dunnett-Voth.  Pallbearers were Brent Watling, Jamie Watling, Yves Cormier, Kamden Carter and Keith Carter.  Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery later in the spring.

The family would like to thank the staff at Shannex-Losier Hall for the excellent care they have given to our mother during her time there. The family would also like to thank the care workers that assisted Hazel in her home during her later years.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Black River Community Cemetery, St. Stephen’s United Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice and would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, NB, telephone (506) 773-3492. Additionally, messages of condolence may be shared online at www.adamsfh.ca
