Jackie Max Somers
1937-2022
Jackie Max Somers, husband of Barbara (MacColl) Somers of Black River Bridge, NB, passed away at Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Friday, April 22, 2022, at the age of 85.
Born in Matthew Settlement, on March 23, 1937, he was the son of the late Wilson and Ida (Hamilton) Somers. Jack was a member of The Point Church, and a dedicated worker for over 30 years with Custom Paving. He was always up for a board game or a fun game of cards. He loved word searches and he must have seen every Western from the 1930s-1950s. He loved visitors, he was a quiet listener who loved having people around. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Barbara; son Rev. Cory Somers (Sandra) of Summerside, PE; daughter, Deanna Estey (Jonathan) of St. Margarets, NB; nine grandchildren: Nathan Estey (Shannon), Katelyn Estey, Brayden Estey, Maggy Somers, Emma Somers, Jack Somers, Will Somers, Jenny Somers, and Luke Somers; one great-grandchild: Elliot Estey; sister, Shirley Haars of Miramichi; brother, Harold Somers (Sandra) of Miramichi; sisters-in-law, Judy Somers and Ruth Thompson (Billy); brothers-in-law, Sterling Mather and Byron MacColl; aunts: Gladys Savage and Nita Somers; as well as many nieces and nephews. Jack was served faithfully by his special caregiver, Debbie MacDonald for the past 5 years. He was predeceased by his parents; sisters: Edna Kingston, Kathleen Mather, Doreen Smith, Pauline Somers, and Blanche Hubbard; and brothers: Mark Somers, Donald Somers, Frank Somers, Lloyd Somers, and Bernie Somers.
A visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home from 6:30 - 9:00 PM on Monday, April 25, 2022. Jackie's Celebration of Life took place at St. Stephen's United Church, Black River Bridge, NB, on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Geoff McLean and Rev. Cory Somers as Officiants. Ministry in Music was provided by Maggie Somers, Emma Somers, and Jenny Somers who sang "Scars in Heaven". "I Saw the Light" was played on guitar and sang by Cory Somers. "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" was sung by Susan Butler. "This World Is Not My Home" was sung as a congregational hymn, and "Amazing Grace, My Chains Are Gone" was played on the violin by Emma Somers as the recessional. The Musical Accompanist was Sandra Somers. The Active Pallbearers were: Nathan Estey, Brayden Estey, Jack Somers, Will Somers, Jamie MacColl, and Boyce Somers. Interment was held in the Black River Community Cemetery.
