James Francis Guimond, husband of Thora (Monahan) Guimond of Moncton and formerly of Miramichi, passed away in Moncton on October 16, 2022, at the age of 90.
Born in Escuminac, New Brunswick on March 19, 1932, he was the son of the late Edmond and Lillian (Jimmo) Guimond. James worked as an Aero Engine Tech for the Military for many years. After retirement he returned to the Miramichi area and fished lobster with his brothers.
He attended St. Michael’s Basilica and served on the altar for over 30 years and had a very, very strong faith. He was a member of the Knight’s of Columbus as a Grand Knight, and also a member of the Legion. James truly loved music and playing the Mandolin. He played with many bands over the years, but finished with the band “Retired Five”.
He loved his family beyond words and was so pleased when the one great-great-grandchild was born to make five generations. He was a very generous man in all parts of life and would help anyone in need. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
James is survived by his wife Thora (Monahan) Guimond of almost 70 years; three daughters: Donna Belej (Jerry) of Frankford, ON, Sharron Guimond of Taber, AB and Shelley Guimond of Moncton, NB; one son, Blaine Guimond (Mary) of Salisbury, NB; 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; three sisters: Lynn Hornsby (Larry) of Oshawa, ON, Donna O’Neill of Miramichi and Thora Jimmo of Miramichi; three brothers: Chlorn Guimond (June) of Escuminac, Floyd Guimond of Saint-Charles, NB and Bliss Guimond of Escuminac. He was predeceased by his parents; infant daughter, Mary; grandchild, Jessie; daughter-in-law, Barb; sister, Audrey; and brothers: Ira, Byron, Edwin and Eugene.
Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Friday, October 21, 2022, from 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM and Mass of Christian Burial followed at St. Michael’s Basilica, at 11 AM with The Reverend Father Dan Bastarache and The Reverend Father Leon Creamer as Celebrants. The music for the service was provided by Jacqueline Allain and the hymns were "Be Not Afraid", "The Lord is my Shepherd", No Greater Love", "Lamb of God", "Ave Maria" and "Songs of the Angels". The recessional song "Grandpa" was sung by Angie Berry and played by Blaine Guimond. The scripture readings were read by Andrew Belej and Mandy Legge. The eulogy was presented by Katie Belej and the Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Jessie Berry. Interment was in St. Michael’s Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Lloyd, Ivan Breau, Dave Wood, Abby Absolom, Darren Knowles and Wilford Knowles. Pallbearers were Joe Belej, Paul Belej, Michael Belej, Jamie Guimond, Brandon Guimond and Jacob Legge. The Knights of Columbus and Peacekeepers formed a guard of honor.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Knights of Columbus would be appreciated by the family.
