James Eldon MacDiarmid

           1945-2021

James Eldon MacDiarmid, husband of Elizabeth (Betty Mahoney) MacDiarmid, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on January 14th, 2021, at the age of 75, following a brief illness.

James was born at the Miramichi Hospital, in Newcastle, to William and Agnes (Lockerbie) MacDiarmid, on April 12th, 1945.  He lived his whole life in Napan, NB.

He is survived by one daughter, Carrie Lynn; son-in-law, Adam MacDonald; two grandchildren:  Sandi Mae and Tyron James; special dog, Bella; one sister, Willa Traer of Fredericton; sisters-in-law:  Helen MacDiarmid of Napan, and Jane (Mervyn) Houck of Russellville Road; and brother-in-law, Burton (Esther) Mahoney of Russellville Road.  James is also survived by many nieces and nephews who found him to be a special Uncle, being there whenever they needed him.  He will be missed by all.

Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother, John MacDiarmid; brothers-in-law:  Keith Traer and Clayton Mahoney; and nephews:  Buddy MacDiarmid, and Michael Houck. 

James was a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Miramichi.  He was a retired employee of MacDiarmid Dairy, St. Margaret’s Radar Station, CFB Chatham, Sky Park Miramichi, and the Province of New Brunswick.  He was also a 4H Leader, and a Director of the Napan Agricultural Show.

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, on Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.  A Private funeral service was held at St. Andrew's United Church, Miramichi on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 11 AM with Rev. Charlene Maguire MacKnight officiating.  The organist for the service was Mrs. Lois McKinnon, and special music was provided by Bill Hachey singing "Here I Am Lord", and Adam MacDonald singing "Hallelujah".  The recessional hymn was "Go Now in Peace".  The lighting of the Christ Candle was by granddaughter, Sandi Mae MacDonald, and the lighting of the Memory Candle was by grandson, Tyron MacDonald.  Remembrances of Jimmy were given by daughter, Carrie MacDonald.  Scripture readings were read by niece, Brigitte Mahoney, and poem "Angel Up In Heaven" was read by granddaughter, Sandi Mae MacDonald.  Honorary pallbearers were:  Burton Mahoney, Dawn & Austin Jenkins, Judy & Murdock Brennan, Agnes & Gary McLenaghan, Dale MacDiarmid, Robert MacDiarmid, Roy Gillis and Moe Morrison.   Interment was held in Pine Grove Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s United Church, NB Extra-Mural, or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
