James “Jimmy” Luke Russell, husband of Greta Russell of Napan, New Brunswick, passed away at Percy’s Place, Miramichi, on October 19, 2023, at the age of 84.

Born in Russellville, NB, on November 26, 1938, he was the son of the late Lisgar and Mary (Sickles) Russell.  Jimmy worked at Canada Bread in Ontario and then after moving back to New Brunswick, he worked at Silviculture.  He was a member of Saint Andrew’s Catholic Church and then later St. Michael’s Basilica.

Jimmy took great pride in his family and loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was always up for telling a good story and could easily put a smile on the faces of those around him. He enjoyed spending time in the woods and working with horses in his younger years.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Greta (Taylor) Russell; two daughters: Jacqueline McGraw (Kevin) of Napan, and Shelley Russell (Greg) of Eel Ground; two sons: Lawson Russell (Melanie) of Miramichi, and Jeff Russell (Natasha) of Napan; thirteen grandchildren: Kaitlin, Krysten, Nathan, Jordan, Victoria, Jonathan, Kailey, Elizabeth, Riley, Luke, Jessie, Jayden and Jake; and two bonus great-grandchildren: Charlie and Jaxon.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  He was predeceased by his parents; infant son, Mark; five sisters: Jackie, Audrey, Thelma, Margaret, and Marion; two brothers: Reg and Bill.

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi, on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 6-8 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, on Thursday, October 26, at 2 PM, with The Reverend Father David Rioux as Celebrant.  Music Ministry was provided by Jacqueline Allain.  The songs included entrance hymn "Alleluia Sing To Jesus", followed by "The Lord is My Shepherd", "Amazing Grace", "I Am The Bread of Life", and "On Eagles Wings".  The recessional hymn was "Blest Are They".  Words of Remembrance were shared by Kaitlin McGraw.  The First Scripture Reading was by Demi Theriault.  The Second Scripture Reading was by Kailey McGraw.  Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Kailey McGraw.  The Honorary Pallbearers were:  Kaitlyn McGraw, Krysten McGraw, Nathan Doucet-Russell, Jordan Doucet-Russell, Victoria Stymiest, Jonathan Russell, Kailey McGraw, Elizabeth Stymiest, Riley Russell, Luke Stymiest, Jessie Russell, Jayden Russell, and Jake Russell.  Interment was in Saint Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Percy’s Place Inc., Saint Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery, or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
