Jennie Ethel (Harris) Underhill

             1935 – 2020

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of our Mom, Jennie Ethel (Harris) Underhill, on the 2nd day of March, 2020, with her family by her side.  She was born on May 1st, 1935 to Alexander and Ella (Kelly) Harris of Gray Rapids, NB.  In 1953 she married the love of her life, Reginald Underhill.  She put her entire life into raising her family and setting an example of living a Godly life before them.  She was a member of the United Pentecostal Church in Gray Rapids and served as a Sunday School Teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for many years.  One of her favorite quotes was “If you miss heaven, you’ve missed it all”.

She is survived by her children: Lois (late Kenneth) Sturgeon, Winsor (Marlene) Underhill, Nelda (late Dana) Sturgeon, Twila (Donald) Shaw and Velma (William) Ward.  She became a proud Nanny to: Trent, Holly, Andrea, Darla, Shonna, Miranda, Tyson, Paula, Gina, Jansen, Justine, and Nanny Reg to Brennan and Alex.  She was every bit as tickled as she became Nanny to each of her eighteen great grandchildren.

She will be missed by her sister, Thelma (Herman) Sullivan, and her brothers Harold (Norma) Harris and Burpee (Olive) Harris, as well as several nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Margie Murphy, Vera Gillespie, Mildred Ewen, Sandra Underhill, Lorraine Walls and Brothers-in-law, Shirley Underhill, Leslie Underhill, Clarence Underhill and Darryl Underhill.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, Darla in 2016 and her sister, Joan Blakeney in 2017 and on November 17, 2018 her Sweetheart went on ahead of her.

Mom will be remembered for having a strong faith, a kind heart and always lending a helping hand to anyone in need.  She loved to cook, sew, sing and talk.

The family received visitors at Gray Rapids United Pentecostal Church, 958 Route 118, Gray Rapids, NB, on Sunday, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM and also on Monday, from 1:00-2:00 pm.  Funeral service was held on Monday, March 9th, 2020 from Gray Rapids United Pentecostal Church at 2:30 pm with Rev. Graham Russell officiating.  The music for the service was provided by Janice Sullivan and Arlene Locke and the songs were “She Still Remembers Jesus Name” sung by Angela & Keith Carter and “If We Never Meet Again” sung by Janice Sullivan.  A violin solo “Amazing Grace” was played by Alex Shaw.  Special readings were read by Holly Grace and Gina Sturgeon and the eulogy was presented by Twila Shaw.

Honorary pallbearers were Myrna Sullivan, Joyce Warren, Mildred Allison, Judy Jardine, Sheila Kelly, Velma Campbell and Ruth Underhill.  Pallbearers were Trent Sturgeon, Jansen Sturgeon, Richard Sullivan, William Ward, Keith Blakeney Jr. and Jonathan Sturgeon.  Interment will be held in the Church Cemetery later in the spring.
