Jessie J. MacDonald Obituary

In Loving Memory of Jessie Jean (Dickson) MacDonald

1938 – 2023

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jessie MacDonald of Point Aux Carr.  She passed away peacefully at Percy’s Place with her children by her side on December 16, 2023.

Born in Center Napan, on July 19, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Stella (Jardine) and Fowlie Dickson.

She is survived by three daughters: Marlene MacDonald (Wendell), Roxanne Gertridge (Jim) and Tambrie MacDonald (Blair); one son Tommy MacDonald (Shirley).  She had seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  She also leaves behind on sister-in-law, Rita McLean (Mac) of Oromocto, as well as many nieces and nephews.  Mom was predeceased by dad, Eddie MacDonald, her sister Frances MacLean, brothers: Tommy and George Dickson.

When Mom retired from Mount St. Joseph then she and dad were supposed to “take it easy”.  After retirement they were busier than even.  Every Wednesday morning, found them first at the nearest “Tims” and then to the Supervalue to get groceries, then back to “Tims” for the drive back to Point Aux Carr!  The pattern never varied much!

Mom loved dances at “The Pines” with Dad and their friends, shopping, gardening in the summer and going to the beach.  She especially loved going to Bingo with her nieces and not her daughters as “we talked too much”!  she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.  She was a fabulous baker and we all loved her scotch cookies.  She always had hot dogs on Sunday for whatever members of the family that were fortunate enough to be there.  She was an avid reader and always loved to stop at the local library for a supply of books!  She was always up for a cup of coffee and was the most supportive wife, mother and grandmother to us all.  She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to see them come for a visit.  She was extremely proud of them.  She had several grand dogs by Miss Tia was “the one”, and Miss Tia visited her Nannie Jessie in the hospital and Mom was so happy to see her.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks for all the kindness and care given to her on the 1st and 4th floor of Horizon Hospital Miramichi and for the amazing care shown to her and her family at Percy’s Place, where she said her last goodbyes so peacefully.  We wish to express our deepest heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gerard Losier who so willingly and kindly looked after both mom and dad for many years.  His kindness will never be forgotten.

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, from 2-4 PM & 7-9 PM.  Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at 11 AM with The Reverend Father David Rioux as Celebrant.  Music for the service was provided by Jacqueline Allain.  The hymns were:  "Prayer of St. Francis", "Be Not Afraid", "The Lord is My Shepherd", "You Are Mine", and "Here I Am Lord".  The Scripture Readings were by Tambrie MacDonald.  The Active Pallbearers were:  Jamie Gertridge, Jim Gertridge, Anthony Comeau, Danny Cameau, Sean Mason, and Ryan MacDonald.  Interment will be in St. Andrew’s Catholic Cemetery later in the spring.

In Mom’s memory, donations may be made to Percy’s Place or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, telephone (506) 773-3492.  Additionally, messages of condolence may be shared online at www.adamsfh.ca
