In Loving Memory of Joanne M. Johnston

1944 – 2024

Joanne Maureen Johnston of Miramichi, NB, passed away at her residence on August 1, 2024, at the age of 80.

Born in Newcastle, NB, on March 17, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ivy (Hogbin) Johnston.  Joanne was a Nurse for many years and was a member of the Senior and Retired Nurses Association.  She was a very faithful member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church (Newcastle).

Joanne is survived by nieces: Natalie Dayman and Jennifer Elkorazati of Ontario, and many friends.  She was predeceased by her parents; and sister, Heather Lawrence.

At the request of the family there was no visitation.  A funeral service was held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 186 Pleasant St., Miramichi, NB, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at 2 PM, with The Reverend Thomas W.L. Nisbett and Mrs. Cynthia Hillier officiating.  Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Jackie Allain and the hymns were "How Great Thou Art", "Just As I Am", "In The Garden" and the recessional hymn was "On Eagles Wings".  The scripture readings were read by Natalie Dayman and Cynthia Hillier.  The honorary pallbearers were a large number of retired nurses and they formed a guard of honour following the service.  A reception followed the service in St. Andrew’s Hall.  Interment was in Miramichi Cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Hope Cafe and Miramichi SPCA would be appreciated by the family.
