John Edward (Ed) Webster

1934 – 2023

John Edward (Ed) Webster, husband of the late Joan (Ullock) Webster of Bushville, Miramichi, NB, passed away on October 22, 2023, at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 88.

Born in Ottawa, ON, on November 15, 1934, he was the son of the late Kathleen and George Webster.

A proud veteran of the Royal Canadian Airforce Fire Services, he served in Claresholm, AB, Penhold, AB, Uplands, ON, Chatham, NB, Summerside, PEI, Greenwood, NS and Ismailia Egypt and Retiring as W.O.  After his retirement from the RCAF, Ed was employed as Deputy Fire Chief in Resolute Bay, Airport Fire Services, followed by Irving Oil in Newcastle. 

He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Joan Webster; sister, Edna Wright, and brothers: Bill, Harry, Jim and Gerald.

Ed is survived by only sibling, Ruby (George) Slaunwhite of Terrence Bay, NS; son, Gerry and daughter-in-law Deane of Greenwood, NS, son, Rob & significant other Wendy of Nanton, AB; grandchildren: Kristine (Ken) McDonnell of Middleton, NS, Heather (Richard) Johnston of Leduc, AB, John (Dara) Gauchier of Calgary, AB, and Scott Webster of Nanton, AB; and great-grandchildren: Marc, Matthew, Leah, Rowan and Charlie.

Ed will be missed deeply by his family and special friends Helen Carroll and Wolf Schwandt.  His absence will be truly noted by his Wednesday Morning Breakfast Buddies from St. Paul’s Anglican Church.

A Celebration of Ed’s Life was held on November 13, 2023, at 11 AM from St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 750 Water St., Miramichi, with The Venerable Perry Cooper, The Reverend Canon Sandy MacPherson, The Reverend Ted Quann and Layreader James McCallum officiating.  Music for the service was provided by Janet Stothart and St. Paul's Church Choir and the hymns were "As the Deer Pants for the Water" and "How Great Thou Art".  A special hymn "Amazing Grace" was sung by Elizabeth Shatford.  A special tribute of Ed was given by John Gauchier.  Interment was in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, followed by a light lunch in the church.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to NB Heart & Stroke, Canadian Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
