In Loving Memory of Joseph (Joe) Sweeney

1943 – 2025 

Joseph Michael Cornelius Sweeney of Miramichi, New Brunswick, passed away at Shannex - Losier Hall, on March 20, 2025, at the age of 81.

Joe was a loving, caring husband, father, grampy, and a friend.  He loved to fish, golf, play hockey, bowl, and coach. He loved nothing more than to tease and torment friends and family, always looking for a laugh and a smile.  

Born in Bushville, New Brunswick, on April 22, 1943, he was the son of the late George and Frances (Robins) Sweeney.  Joseph worked for Kraft as a Salesman for many years.  He attended St. Michael’s Basilica.

Joseph is survived by two daughters: Michele Sweeney-Allain of Miramichi, New Brunswick, and Tammy Malley (Robert) of Napan, New Brunswick; one son, Michael Sweeney (Barbara) of Dalhousie, New Brunswick; five grandchildren: Karie (Jade), Kylie (Chris), Kaitlin (Andre), Jenna, and Sophia; seven great-grandchildren: Leah, Jace, Bentley, Ava, Nate, Rayna, and Jazlyn; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Delcia Thibodeau; and brother, Kenneth.

Visitation was held at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025,  from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Michael’s Basilica, 10 Howard St., Miramichi, New Brunswick, on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with The Reverend Father David Rioux as Celebrant.  Music for the service was provided by Jacqueline Allain and the hymns were "Ave Maria", "All For Your Glory", "Psalm 23", "Take Me Home", "One Love Released", Hymn to St. Joseph", "Songs of The Angels" and the recessional hymn was "We Shall Go Out".  The scripture readings were read by Marielle Girouard, and Cindy McGraw, and the Prayers of the Faithful were proclaimed by Cindy McGraw.  The eulogy was presented by Michael Sweeney.

The Active Pallbearers were:  Glen Sweeney, Peter Malley, Chris Mahoney, and Michael Girouard.  Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Miramichi, New Brunswick, later in the spring.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Miramichi SPCA or The Kidney Foundation of Canada would be appreciated by the family.
