Kenneth W. Sweezey Obituary

Kenneth W. Sweezey

1934 - 2022

On October 28, 2022, Kenneth William Sweezey, a beloved uncle, passed away peacefully at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home at the age of 88.

Born in Napan Bay on June 25, 1934, he was the eldest son of the late Frank and Evelyn Sweezey.   Following in his father's footsteps, Ken became a self-employed commercial fisherman. He was so renowned for his skills and knowledge that Ken hosted scientists from across North America to assist them in their research. He was also a bricklayer, which led him to Fredericton, NB, to help in the construction of St. Thomas University in the early 60s. In addition to being a fisherman and bricklayer, Ken was also an avid trapper.

Ken possessed a keen intellect; his knowledge spanned from fishing and animals to history and world events. As a gifted storyteller, he entertained family and friends with his stories, never forgetting a detail. Ken was an extraordinary man, one of great faith and moral fortitude.

Ken is survived by his sister-in-law Faye Sweezey, nieces and nephews Ruth (Michael) O'Reilly, Paul (Norma) Gilliss, David (Karen) Gilliss, Evelyn (Robert) Gilliss, Russell Sweezey and Jacob (Lisa) Sweezey, and many great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings Marion (Ralph) Gilliss, Jack Sweezey, and Frankie (Evelyn) Sweezey.

The family would like to thank all healthcare professionals and staff at Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home who loved Ken and treated him like a family member.

At the request of the family, there was no visitation.  A private graveside service was held in the Black River Community Cemetery on November 2, 2022, at 11 AM with The Reverend Father Antonio Reyes as Celebrant.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to Mount Saint Joseph Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi, NB, telephone (506) 773-3492, or messages of condolence may be sent online to www.adamsfh.ca.
